Hi,

Im now a year and two months post interview (Scotland) and heard the grand total of **** all.
I’m done waiting now, I don’t think this is fair at all at this point I’m at least worthy of a decision even after the FEO said all was good
The only thing that’s been a barrier for me is previous Anxiety issues and a historical period of depression, I have the backing off my GP aswell who says he has no concerns and is happy for me to have it. As-well as a letter of a previous counsellor I went too for a period time who wrote a letter outlining that there’s zero concerns etc (which they know everything)

What options have I got ? I’m insured with Gun plan think it’s changed name now though. Is there anything else I can do ? I’m getting no where and calls and emails are ignored or answered with “It’s in the process”
A year and 2 months post interview is enough time for a decision
Done waiting around now frankly or being pied off
Cheers

How many paid stalks have you done in this time period to gain some experience while adding meat to the freezer?

Not convinced you’ve got many (if any) legal options. The primary route is an appeal but that requires a refusal/revocation which you haven’t had. At best, I think you’d be looking at judicial review by arguing that the delay is tantamount to a refusal.

However, that’s getting a bit technical and I’m not convinced you’d get anywhere.

I’d think your only options are to chase (if you haven’t or to up your efforts if you’ve been very polite about it) or raise a complaint to the FLM and/or CC (and PCC of you have those in Scotland).

Been out plenty times again experience at this point isn’t an issue. Yeh not the most experienced but used a firearm (Rifle) plenty times and dsc1 etc

We have PIRC in Scotland, Police Independant Review Commision but they don’t usually get involved till after the police have made their decision. You could try contacting your FEO as it will be sitting on their desk, they could be off long term sick or in a temp post and your application is sitting in their queue. Maybe contact the main licensing department at Dalmarnock if your in the west, not sure east or north and ask them if there is an issue with your application. Just mind and stay polite and calm as any excuse to refuse.

feel your frustration, as said a letter addressed to your Chief Constable asking him to help move the application forward.

other than that if they have your money you possibly could take them to court for failing to provide the service you have paid for, but even if that is possible it may end badly for you.

Do you need a firearm for your work? For example are you a farmer, wildlife ranger, pest controller, gamekeeper etc?
If so, it may be possible to request your application be accelerated on that basis. I have known it be successful on a number of occasions.

Unfortunately don’t work in that field as much as I’d love too.
So won’t be able to accelerate it for that reason, heard you can before but not an option for me.

I don’t want to get in the bad side of anyone, I know licensing just do there job and when it comes to this kinda of stuff where there is medical history to consider then it’s important it’s thorough but a year and 2 months is plenty time.

I think I may contact the insurance as they do cover grants with it and see if maybe a phone call from there reps for that side of thing can shift the ball

My neighbour/friend got there’s a few months back, I think the delay is certainly medical related, I could imagine a surgery won’t be quick in answering there questions either but a year and a bit is plenty time.

Think I’m going to try phone the legal side of insurance who do cover grants and see what they can do to shift the ball. I’m only asking for an answer, I feel an answer is fair and I’m bit hacked off it’s taking this long to be honest. I only want to go out hunting etc or to clays when it suits me and I’ve no record or anything absolutely nothing, just sadly had a stressful time growing up n needed help pretty much sums it up

I would write an extremely polite letter to the head of the firearms licensing team. If you don't get anywhere write to the chief constable.
Not a bad idea too, definitely worth a shot. I’m a reasonable dude but I think a year odds is a joke especially with no updates on the delay etc
