What is a 1/2 gun in a syndicate

Thanks all, I had an idea that may be the case, but thought it a good idea to check before I enquire.

It is slightly more expensive as 1/2 gun, I have just been offered full at 800 and half at 430, it all depends how many days you want.

Hells bells, I was offered 1/2 gun at £770, pheasants ready hung and ready to eat? TBH, not bothered about the game, also gives rights for Roe and vermin all year round. Depends on deer carcass ownership after shooting I suppose. Works out to about 10-11 days stalking, and endless vermin control, so might actually be economical.

Price is always flexible depending on how many poults put down, days shot etc, but if you get roe and vermin thrown in 770 is not bad!

That's what I thought MikeL. Left a message for the organiser to ring me. Not sure what his reaction will be when I tell him I'm not bothered about the pheasant. I'll probably be committing sacrilege.

Our syndicate is equal half and you sort out with your other half gun how you want to work it either half a day each over the ten days or five full days each looks to work quite well most our half guns are wives or sons so just share the day all work party’s everyone mucks in equally and each gun pays his own beater for the day

in my syndicate a half gun pays half, and is given a partner. They sort it out between them who shoots when. Everybody is expected to help out with a minimum of five workdays whether half or full gun, or forfeit a 50 quid levy. 770 quid for unlimited vermin and a few goes at the Roe is an absolute bargain. Snap their hand off!

Pretty much the same as above - get a partner and arrange dates with them with the syndicate allowing 600 acres of pigeon, rabbit and fox control. No deer unfortunately as an old stalker (mid 80s) who never goes has had the rights for the past 50 years wont give it up. Not uncommon to see a dozen munties in a day.

Anyway, used to be a full gun, been a half gun for the last five years and now a mate whos a full gun might give up his gun and share my half gun making us each quarter guns ( lol if that exists) to keep the pest control permissions.

We both used to thoroughly enjoy it and still do to a certain respect, but now its more about the people, working the dogs, the day out in the woods and the craic rather than actually shooting anything.

A shoot I've just left was infinitely flexible offering a Full/Full (shoot every drive on both Weds and Sat), a Full (shoot every drive on either the Weds or Sat), a Half/Full (shoot half the drives on both Weds and Sat) or a Half/Half (shoot half the drives on either the Weds or Sat)! It did take some managing but everyone was happy.

I’ll take the half for the pheasants then lol

Isn't that what shooting is all about for most though.
