What rail for 1000?

Hi all

Just about to build my first howa 6.5 Creedmoor mainly for stalking but also pushing out for fun. I’ve got a grs stock for it and gen 1 vortex viper PST 6-24x50 FFP MRAD but I don’t know what moa rail I need, I’d like to try 1000 for fun so thought I better fit 10 or 20 moa rail but does this mean my scope will be wound well down at 100 and effect the view? This side of things is new to me so any advice welcome

Cheers

J

Your scope has around 65moa total elevation adjustment - Depending on barrel length, velocity, bullet weight and all the other variables you will need around 30 moa to go from 100 to 1000yds, so in theory you might just do it without an angled rail, however, adding a 20moa rail will get you there comfortably and not compromise anything at 100yds.

Great thanks for that, I didn’t know if 20 moa rail would mean that it would be at the edge of its view when stalking which is its intended job. I think it will come with a zero moa rail anyway so il prob see what it does with that then and go from there?

Thanks

Simply put, if you have 65moa total travel, and you zero the scope with a 0moa rail, it would put you somewhere in the middle of your 65moa -so 32 or there abouts.

By using a 20 moa rail, this would be brought down to 12 moa (from the bottom of the lowest amount of elevation of the scope) to maintain the same point of impact.

If you need say 30-32moa of elevation to get you to the 1k mark, you still have approximately 20moa left of the scope until you max out the turret.
