That’s very true. When I started out what I was carrying resembled something out of the advance on Port Stanley….
Now, if it does fit in my pockets of the little pouch on my Bino caddy….it isn’t coming.
Everything now has to earn its place, as I get older I’m far more discerning.

Speaking of "minimalist" kit, does anyone still use a single stick for woodland stalking?

I used to when I started stalking, my profesional stalker Roger Cray would only allow a single stick, and you were never allowed to shoot of a bipod, I remember on one occasion there had been a complaint from the keeper that a doe was atttacking a new game crop and wanted it gone, managed to locate it one early morning and I was to take the shot at what he estimated was 120yds as it was so important to get it as a great honour he offerd to allow me to rest my elbow on his shoulder, I did get the doe,I now use a quad sticks.

If you are starting out don’t go overboard with buying everything you see and read about, all you need to get started is:
Rifle (deer calibre)
Scope
Binoculars
Shooting sticks
Knife and possibly a breast bone saw
Field knife sharpener or steel
Latex gloves
Gambrel
Zip lock bags
Cable ties
Rope
Headtorch
Rucksack for your bits and pieces including a first aid kit and bug spray.
Rifle (deer calibre)
Scope
Binoculars
Shooting sticks
Knife and possibly a breast bone saw
Field knife sharpener or steel
Latex gloves

Zip lock bags
Cable ties

I only ever used to use a single stick. Still have it out in the hall with my other sticks. Great for woodland stalking. I do have a set of quad sticks that have only been used once and that was for a trip back to the UK for CWD and munti stalking. All my rifle hunting now is high seat or off hand shots.
When I stalked the woodlands of Sussex I took, rifle, scope, knife ,ammo and stick.

Really it all comes down to how much 
you want to haul, I can stalk with a rifle and a Swiss army knife with blue jeans and a red T shirt (wouldn’t have been the first time or probably the last!) now days for me it’s all about practicality!
As soon as my thermal packs up, I would be replacing it so that will make the kit a good lb or more lighter

If you want to go really minimalist then yes, but if you want to cover all eventualities then leave as is.

It was stated in the first page I think, but really it is dictated, for me, by the circumstances of the stalk. Obviusly, as little as possible....( Apart from rifle, pull through, sticks, ammo, thermal, phone, kinfe as the bare minimum) I have pretty much everything mentioned in all these thread pages at home and tend to cherry pick what I need depending on where I am going, who I am going with, what we are stalking and when and where.., but the go to is the gralloch bag ( drag, S hooks, paracord, zipper, bone saw, gloves, wipes, deer diseases reference guide and some light sticks for marking) but I sometimes leave this in the truck if we are parking not too far away and intend to drag any deer back and gralloch at the truck. I try and be as minimal as possible. I have different bags / rucks for differing scenarios...

Without wanting to sound off: stalking knowledge and experience - lightens your load (literally). As you progress and learn more you will pair back your kit on your own because you will learn for yourself what works and what doesn’t for you. Trust me this is how it works…..don’t get too wrapped up in it, it’ll happen anyway. Good luck with the journey.

Rifle, scope, 8 rounds, quad sticks, binoculars. Roe sack with two knives (don’t know why as only ever use one in the field), Gerber bone saw, nitrile gloves, very small first aid kit, foil blanket energy/ chocolate bar (unless mice get there first). Bit of blue poly rope as a drag. Small headtorch. Oh and a small packet of tissues.
