whats the "must have" mod nowerdays ??

I guess it depends what you want a mod for, and for what calibre. If you're range shooting, so strings of shots where good suppression is required, the Wildcat Elite is sublime. If you want a stalking mod, for only occasional shots, and perhaps a limit on overall length, then the Wildcat Evo for sure - but Freyr and Devik produce some nice mods.
Things like the ASE Utra are still excellent - and I am sure this thread will extend with all sorts of different personal favourites.

Personally I run the new Wildcat Elite in both steel and titanium forms for everything other than rimfire.

As @Eric the Red says, depends upon what you want it for. For range strings, load dev, etc, I use Wildcat EVOs but they are long and heavy (420g). For stalking, I use Freyr & Devik FW149 (.243), a UTS131 on my .270 (the numbers are the weights), ie a quarter of the EVO, and on my .308s an Oceania Defence Alpine Hunter (167g) and a F&D UTS 231. These are so lightweight you don’t know that they are at the end of my 20” barrels and recoil and handling are superb. I started with a .30cal T8 and have come a very, very long way better in the intervening 30 years!

Brugger and Thomet
So interestingly
I had held them in high regard..
Then I got my hands on one, ran it on my 6.5-284 and was bitterly disappointed with the sound attenuation.

Even with Mk1 ear drum it was significantly louder than even the already loud Lawrence Precision I was “testing”..

The difference between it/them and the PES/MAE and DPT I also run is night and day

Suspect they are designed with abuse and build quality in mind vs. Fineries of sound attenuation

It is very well made however

I’ve had Lawrence precision, Oceania defence, t8 and three Freyer and Devik. My favourite is the Freyer and Devik UTS. Quiet well made and light
