HI can anyone give me advice on when to anneal cases. I had conflating views from people some say anneal after every firing others say after every other
Also to anneal before re sizing or after .

Many thanks in advance

Many thanks ,I've just bought an ugly annealing machine so ill make it part of my reloading regime now.
You won’t be disappointed with the ugly annealer, I bought one earlier in the year (never annealed before) and it’s been great. Easy to use and my SD has improved, mainly I think because my case necks were on 5 times resize and getting incredibly hard and inflexible. It’s made a real difference (I think, anyway!).

6.5prc after every fireing.
270 every third time.
Lapua so far no splits on 6th reload.
.270 ppu brass 20 +times.!
Mines a home made job but if it was me starting out the ugly bugger in a heart beat.

Ugly Annealer is a great bit of kit. As is the comparator set Martin sells too.

I spent a chunk of yesterday cleaning, annealing and FLS a load of .308 that I had used in a previous rifle that will now be used in my Sauer.

I tend to anneal after every 4th firing in my rifles, and bump/neck tension in between. But as I was switching to a different barrel/chamber, 200+ went through the annealer.......before getting sized.

I have (don't ask) an AMP annealer.

I anneal after every firing - this gives the best consistency. If you are only annealing after the 9-10th (as has been said), there is no consistency. Not a huge problem for deer stalking but for Long range nonsense, it's a bit like Tesco "Every little helps".

As for the order in which to complete the preparation:

Herewith is the order (direct from the makers of the AMP):-

The problem with AMP's sequence is that cleaning material goes into the AMP annealer. I wait with bated breath for your account of how you wrecked your AMP annealer.......

That's exactly the sequence I follow, every 10-12 firings, but with a Raptor Calls turntable gadget...

I'd planned to make an induction annealer using one of the chinese "Free rusty bolt" jobs from ebay when they first appeared.
But life got in the way, and then the price doubled.

If you shoot every week and reload every week every 3 months

If you're wet tumbling with SS media, you just need to make sure all the media is removed.

As to it wrecking the AMP if SS media falls into the machine, it takes quite a bit to do that. And if you catch it, you can pluck the little piece of media out, if it hasn't melted into the material in the machine (AMHIK). That was one of the reasons for the Mk 2 version, so that that particular piece could be replaced by the owner, rather than sending the unit back to Australia to be fixed.

My own AMP is one of the 1st gen versions (though I did add the Aztec software to it, when it was released). It's had 3 pieces of SS media melted into the internal components for....at least 6 years now. The AMP is still going strong. If it dies, oh well. I've had it at least 10 years now, and annealed God knows how many thousands of cases. I think I've gotten my money's worth out of this one, so if it sh*ts the bed....no big deal.

With corn cob or walnut media, it's a non-issue.
