For reasons that some readers will be aware, the recent loss (why do we use that word?) of two of our dogs, has left us with just the one Cocker Spaniel.
The joy a dog can bring to one's life, is manifest.
It is sometimes brought about by the most random of events.
This simple wee tale is one such event.
I walk my dogs (force of habit
) dog, very early in the morning. Oft times whilst it is still dark.
About a week ago, I was aware of the Cocker sniffing about in the undergrowth. The lady who bred her; had initially trained her to 'hunt truffles' and I thought that perhaps she has caught a scent of something that reminded her of her earliest days.
After a few moments, she reappeared and was clearly carrying something in her mouth (where else does a dog carry suff!?)
She was quite protective of her 'find' and was not going to let me take it, until she got it home.

As soon as we arrived home, she 'presented' her find to me.
She was terribly proud of it.
Not as proud as I was of her.
Only a simple thing.
Just one of those joyous moments a dog brings to your life.
I thought it rather wonderful...
