Where to source chickens

The chickens will be for eggs mainly but I wouldn’t mind having some for meat 😂😂
Get some fancy laying hens I strongly believe most people with these breeds that lay 300+ eggs per year probably dont eat 1000/2000 eggs across a few birds unless you REALLY like eggs.

I would be keen to get broiler breeds no clue if you can get Cornish crosses in the UK but a breed like that would be my #1 pick Cornish crosses get to about 6kg in 8 weeks, I'm sure we have a UK breed out there that's a kilo or two smaller that has the same rearing time lmo.

If it's meat you're after, forget the ex-commercial breeds as they are purely egg machines. There are a lot of good dual-purpose breeds now available but as has been repeatedly said the good old-fashioned Rhode Island/Light Sussex cross has stood the test of time. I kept straight RIR for years and they were always decent egg producers and nice table birds.

Get yourself some ex battery hens, they're great layers and cheap as chips.
I got six a few months back from a rescue place on Facebook, once they had finished their molt they started laying regular again and I get roughly four or five eggs each day.
£18.00 all six
And a bounce they are relatively tame so easy to manage.
