Which .223 for foxing?

Evening everyone. Just after some advice. I have around £900 and I am looking at getting a decent .223 for Fox control. The main two that have caught my eye are the Tikka t3x and the Sauer 100. Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated. Is there any particular twist rates I need to avoid or will all be ok for pest control?

Both great rifles , if you intend to customise it to suit your needs or liking the Tx3 all day long

If you intend to just buy it at shoot it and are happy to leave as it is then go for the Sauer .

Think of the Tikka as a platform whereas the sauer is a finished rifle .

Regarding twist 1-8 will cover nearly everything you can stuff down the barrel .

I’m using a Sauer 100 in .223 , fluted barrel , 60• bolt comes in handy when using add on night vision,1in 9 twist , shooting 56 gr Geco & 55 gr Hornady , although it has shot & grouped well with most I’ve put through it , & not fussy at all to be honest .
Mainly for foxing & is extremely accurate , not to heavy either if walking about ,absolutley love it ,
Enjoyed shooting my previous Howa 1500 but this is another level , very pleased with it Adam

Chances are you could pick up a nice sako 75 with scope etc for that price If you look in the right places.

The older Tilka m595 also lovely. Even more so if you find a nice stainless laminate one. Not seen many of those for sale though.

I’ve had a Sako 75 and tikka m595. Both built like quality tanks.
The tikka has some plastic parts (bottoms, mag etc) however is a great rifle and can be great value.
75’s seem to be circa 7-800. My m595 set me back about 400.
I recommend either

The Sauer 100…..a respected RFD had this opinion. “100, out during 2018. Cheaper version of 101. Bolt locks into receiver, same as Tikka, Sako, Howa, Remington, Bergara, and indeed most rifles... You and I will never tell the difference. Same trigger, same magazine, more simplistic safety catch [ better, I feel ]. Same huge accuracy. 100 was intended to have non-adjustable basic trigger but that didn't pan out, it has the great 101 unit. 100 has 10-year-warranty, 101 the same now [ was 5 years formerly ]”
Avoid buying a used gun…unless you can shoot it first. A new Sauer 100 is under £1k on guntrader.

Because of the rubbish bedding system-

@adamk4y

The Tikka T3x can be had with a decent stock, magazine and fast twist barrel in the form of a CTR version.

A serious rifle for sure. Howa 1500 varmint also worth a look.

If you just want a toy, then the Sauer or a CZ 600 will do...

I use a Weatherby cabine vanguard in .223 light to carry, but they are no longer made. May not be the most expensive or probably best quality but as a tool it gets the job done.
