Which .22lr ?

Ratting in barns, no damage to corrugated and no ricochets, you may be onto something. 🤔
I think they would damage corrugated (it's denser than copper, remember) and ricochet like Hell at certain angles of impact, but at least they wouldn't contaminate the environment or poison anyone 😁

Ouch , I quite enjoyed plinking .22 without worrying my wallet crying... do we know If there's gonna a cheap alternative to lead at all ?

Mainly target shooting , maybe prs in the future...
Anschutz all the way then, if you can find a good secondhand 1710 with the heavy barrel grab it, they’re pretty rifles and stupid accurate.
If you’re going new then the world’s your oyster.
As far as ammunition goes, you definitely get what you pay for, the cheaper stuff just doesn’t hack it in competition.

For plinking I’d choose

Cz
R8
Vudoo
Anshutz
Etc etc etc

For bunny head shots at 120m I’d choose…

The same

There really isn’t a bad one - even the 10 22 has a use 😇

You will have to find the right ammo though

Other than that, it is largely fashion

Oh and lots and lots of practice - know your tool well

Used be I'd have reply to a thread like this with a "CZ all the way" post, but a Weihrauch HW66 is definitely worth a look

I'll be OK with hi-velocity for plinking, they probably won't actually go subsonic within the range I am shooting (up to 50m).

But if the .22LR market starts to fade away, there will be ripple-effect precautions for all .22LR shooters...

My CZ 457 can take a .17 barrel, so we'll see...

.22 lead projectiles being totally banned is NOT a foregone conclusion of the current examinations of lead use in shooting! How the heck would competition shooting in .22LR rifles and pistols at ANY level go without lead bullets?? Not that I do any of that now, but what harm does/did indoor (or outdoor for that matter) range shooting do to the environment or the food chain(s)??

Oh .. mayb I'll get a 455/457 and if lead ban happens then I'll just variant it to a 17hmr or somthing then

The whole point of a 22 is subsonics, I can’t see that hurdle being cleared.
Only in the UK, pretty much everywhere else it’s HV for both small game and plinking.
Target ammo is sub sonic, but nowhere near as popular, which is why the cheap bulk boxes are almost always HVHP.

My local gun shops are festooned with sub £100 rifles in 22lr, most of which include moderator and scope. A CZ fits the bill nicely. A solid work horse that will give you good service for many years to come. They are very little money to buy, so maybe very little money to loose in our uncertain future.

From New HSE consultation launched on lead ammunition

"Rifle ammunition for target shooting

Under the proposals, the use of lead ammunition could continue at approved ranges where mitigation measures for lead removal are in place, with a two-year grace period allowing alternative ranges to adapt. "

Hopefully, this means I can continue plinking... and it also means that the sale of lead ammo won't be banned, just its use.

So I should be fine.... as long as the NRA ranges in Bisley will have "mitigation measures for lead removal" 👍

If their sale is still allowed only for range use then you won't be able to buy expanding or fragmenting rounds.

I have CZ 457 royal .22 lovely to shoot and very accurate with most ammo at 100 yards . Have a tikka 17 HMR which is accurate but have awful mags which don’t work like they should . If I knew this before definitely would’ve gone CZ 457 & imo 457 is just as good
