Which 308?

Im starting to think Howa. Xmas is not cheap and budget (limited to what i can justify and assemble) is not too elastic, so does anyone have a howa heavy barrel that they could critique for me?

I fitted a AI style mag system to my sons Howa to take 5 or 10 shot AICS mags, a little bit more tricky to fit than to a remmy.
If money is tight but you want some 308 fun I'd go with a sps varmint, fit a second hand wooden or composite stock. If the stock is purchased at the right price it can be sold for the same later if you want to upgrade. Practice with a harder trigger pull and see what can be achieved, maybe have the barrel re-crowned. Later bit by bit you can improve components and actually learn what each component will improve on group sizes or if the component is only bluff.
If re-barrel, I would not get the action blue printed, all remmies I had re-barrelled so far shot great without any extra work.
One can get a lot of enjoyment out of fettling with remmies. I wouldn't want a ssg or trg if it were for free.

Howa with a heavy barrel will be hosed upon from a great height by the M65A I posted about earlier which is for sale in Norfolk it turns out, so might be worth a call. I'd get it myself but no budget till late 2014.

The 24.5 inch target barrel will shoot as well as any custom I'll bet and a fraction of the price. If you're doing target things a varmint/heavy barrel is only a halfway house. It'll go for £550/650.

Remington PSS.
I do not know about the trigger on the new Remington's however I did the mod described in the link on mine and have found it to be a very accurate piece of kit.
I see that Sportsman is doing a 20'' barreled tactical version at the minute so that may be worth a look.
