Which Electric Hoist?

Looking to future proof my current larder project with an electric hoist which will be useful for skinning and lifting larder species of deer.

Thinking a 125/250kg capacity should be plenty for my needs.

Currently trying to choose between a Hilka or Warrior.

Any real world experience and recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have 2 Hilkas and also stalked for years on on estate which used them. Never had any problems

TBF they are the 500kg rated

I was given one which is 150/300 kg to get the high value then the snatch block would used.
It was new second hand 240v about the same as your pictures.
My brace pole is round so I formed 2 U's and welded the brackets that came with it to fit.
The brace pole has had 125kg on it using a 3-1 rope pully so close to what my new one is rated for.

I see you already ordered, but would advice getting a bigger model. Using the snatch block will probably sacrifice some height, and depending how the manufacturer specifies the rating you might not achieve 125kg lift. I think hoists are rated with full spool, but winches are rated for nearly empty spool and pull considerably less, like 50%, with full spool. You never know how those Chinese rate their products...

If you decide to go with 125kg model, there's an option to shorten the steel wire if you run into problems. Depending on spool geometry, this should about double the lifting capacity.

Being a cheapskate, my 2 are as basic as they come. One off eBay, the other from Lidl. Both cost less than £50 and after 8 years of regular use they are still working flawlessly.

Thanks for the advice and all noted.

It will be getting used for easy skinning and occasional lifting of Roe and Sika which should be well within it’s basic capabilities.

Exactly the reason why I have 2. One is on a sliding trolley on a rail to ease handling the occasional large beasts and the other fixed one is used exclusively for skinning :thumb:
