Which gloves do you recommend?

Hi Guys,

Which gloves do you recommend whilst out stalking?

I'm struggling to find a pair of gloves which are warm enough for exposed high seats in the driving wind and rain, whilst also offering enough dexterity for bino/LRF/thermal control manipulation.

Most recently I've tried the Sealskinz with the fold over trigger finger/thumb – but they've spent most of the time tucked into my pocket as the other fingers are too bulky for manipulating the various controls.

What have you found that works?

Thanks,

Cam.

What your doing is as good as it gets , there’s no way to manipulate fussy little electronic switches through gloves.

Macwet are ok but cold when they get wet. For warmth, I'd go for soldier 95 pattern leather gloves from fleabay, but they might not give you the dexterity you require.

I’ve found you can’t get both dexterity as well as good warmth. I’ve bought merino under gloves, plan to use with my usual Sealskinz. I hope, when I take off my gloves for a few minutes, they’ll retain some warmth.

Let’s see....will report next month

In extreme cold weather you could wear a pair of standard Summer gloves (typically around £10 from shooting supply retailers) and wear an over-seized pair of thick winter MITTENS on strings over them. On strings, so you can very quickly take them off, without loosing them. This doesn't work very well wen you are actively stalking, as they get in the way, but is great when you are static in a high seat, when you often have a little more time to set up a shot.

Thin liner gloves of your choice inside Dachstein woolen mittens for when you really need to keep your hands warm.

I gave up on macwets and sealskins long ago, getting a wet hand back into sealskins was like trying to stuff a sausage back in its casing....

The liner and dachstein combo works so well for me but everyone has their own way, trial and error

I prefer the macwet there all I use when they get “wet” they dry in no time I have long and short cuff but pref the long I’d go half a size smaller as there quite a large fit and they stretch a touch you’ll no know you have um on there propa!

McWets and use your handwamer pockets in your jacket to keep them warm whilst sat in your highseat

I have 3 different pairs of gloves in use. But my favourite are the mcwets. They are not perfect (no glove is) but they are easy to wear, fit well and I can still manage to actually use my hands when wearing them. Yes they are only thin, and can get a bit cold, but its worth it as you dont have to keep taking them off to do things.

I am on a quad everyday, and wear on the coldest winter days.

big army Goretex Overmits with the child proof string attached through the coat .I wear various thin gloves or some times nothing underneath depending on the weather

go to home bargains, i buy 10 pairs of thinsulate gloves, for £20, put them in a bucket with thompson water seal, let them soak then dry, bingo warm and waterproof, if they get knackered bin em, ten pairs will last you a while bs.

Likewise. Just like the perfect all round car, bullet, rifle etc you'll always compromise and not get what you want in the range of situations. These were army surplus but looked brand new and cost £15. Put on a pair of cheap knitted fingerless gloves and these over. That way you can slip them off (they have elastic wrist cords so you won't lose them) use your phone, binos, pull the trigger and the pop them back on to stay warm. They're big enough that if you wanted to slip a handwarmer in each one that's possible too. After doing it this way I'd not bother trying to get one glove to do it all and spend £30 or £40 plus on gloves.
