thinking that a 270 would do the job but why not get a blazer with 2 barrels? (still only 1 rifle and will stop you putting BIG holes in a roe) I shoot roe with my 270 but even with 90 gr bullets going slow it makes a mess
If you only have one rifle, you'll shoot it a lot.....and it's got to be 308.
Great for a bit of target shooting as ammo is cheap and barrel life high.
maybe just too sensible.

Andy has a good point, you could go the Blaser, Sauer or Mauser route and be complying with the Shooting Permission Officer's request that you only have one rifle, but have another barrel too. Quality item too, if you discount the white metal that Blaser use in their actions
Aaaaaahhhhh the old school motto, "Sneaky is Best"!
I agree with andymarsh, get a Blaser.
I have .234/.300Win Mag and .375 H & H that do the trick for everything.
The .243 and .300 Win Mag do me for everything from Roe to Gemsbok.
do what i do one good gun slip but three rifles, wife hasen't good a clueshe is never in or near my gun safe so when i go out shooting she thinks it the same gun.would go mentill if she new or the cost
Hi there
Just to put a gentlemanly spanner in the works....
If you want a decent grain weight round (140gr standard) then how about the european 7x57 or as we older gents call it, the .275 Rigby.
If it was good enough for Bell and his elephant shooting!
Seriously, it's a great soft on the shoulder calibre and seems to cause less meat damage than the higher velocity calibres.
Only trouble is it's not that flat but then a lot of my stalking is close ish' woodland/woodland edge
I'm just about to sell my .243 and end up with just the one rifle so there you go...
One thing you can be sure of-ask 50 stalkers what to go for and you will get 51 different answers
