Which One Is Your Cabinet Mistress?

Not sure if I will get any takers for this one, but I hope so. I posted a thread nearly seven years ago titled "Which one is your 'wifle' ?"

Old Link

The gist was:

Just a bit of fun. Which one in your safe is your wifle? This is the rifle which you would spend the rest of your life with. The one you reach for; would happily lie in bed and cuddle up to. The one that 'they' would have to prise out of your cold dead hands.

For me it is my Sauer 202 Outback, but I have to admit that my Sako 85 Stainless Hunter Laminate is the dirty young mistress that I steal away for an illicit night with.

It's still the same, my wifle and I are very happy. The Sako 85 in 30-06 is the no longer the dirty young mistress, but we still get out. The old girlfriend, Sako 85 varmint in .223 is hard to let go of. We just 'fit' well together. :)

On the original thread, Mr Klench suggested this new title, so are you the wife type or mistress type? Or do you run around with any bit of stuff you get your hands on and cast her aside when the new favourite is on the scene? (Hard to do with our licensing laws, though.)

kind regards

Ian

The ‘wifle’, my Sauer 404 in .308, which was very much ‘love at first mount’, if you catch my drift. I wanted a Mauser M03 but changed mind the moment I shouldered her. And my ‘mistress’, my S&L Legacy in .223. I know I should be taking the 404 out but then I find myself reaching for the .223 ammo...9C352716-F3F6-454B-A9EB-97B652DA26F5.webp

Fortunately I do not have to choose - having realised the dream of many a young man some time ago. A regular threesome with the Remy identical twins is all that you ever thought it would be chaps!

My tastes are wide and varied and my licensing dept. very accommodating.

For a long time it would have been me CZ527 hornet but the barrel, which came to me already pitted, finally gave up after a couple of thousand happily spent rounds.

So my wife now is most definitely my CZ550 6.5x55 which is like an extension to my arm, I feel like I'm cheating on her when the brutish metrosexual 6.5 creedmoor comes out the cabinet with its high mag scope and blue synthetic stock or the dainty 25-45 sharps, at some point I'll take a deer with the beautifully engineered K31 - then there's going to be the new girl on the block the .280 Sako I'll be picking up soon...

I am lucky that I have plenty to choose from whether I'm shooting paper at Bisley, deer, foxes or vermin and they all still put a smile on my face each time I use them, but the old Swede is the one I know I can rely on!!

Ha!

Easy, I love my Sako 75 in .270. Bought second hand from a wannabe keeper who realised living 6km up a highland Glen was no life for an 18 year old lad. A very few rounds through her barrel and never really loved, she was ready for me, and me for her. She has Elegant and classical looks, is utterly reliable, puts up with my stupidity and indiscretions, keeps my plate and freezer full, comfortable in hand but Lordy, pull her trigger and you know you have a wild one...

I have had a few dalliances, most notable with a naughty little strumpet of a .260REM. She looked amazing in all the right places. A beautiful, perfectly formed youngster fresh and ready for action, but the pleasures of plastic palled, she was unreliable on the reload, unwilling to tolerate my faults, had a small magazine and tight bolt, we had some foot times when things went well she was great but when it went wrong it was rough, it didn’t last...

A great rifle in the ultimate and time-proven estate calibre - sure what's not to love? I hope she forgave your indiscretions........

Thankfully she forgave my brief distraction with the high maintenance mid life indiscretion, she is back to where she belongs cradled in my arms, cheek pressed against her warm butt...

mine would be my remington 700 in 6.5cm. also being a remington its easy to change the stock when she's getting rough around the edges :S

My gun safe is like a "sporting house" I love them all and paid dearly for a few of them. Some Elegant like the Ruger No1B 270 others like the 1903 Springfield in original condition make me smile even with a few dings here and there.
