Which one to full mount??

Had a recent trip to South Africa which I was very lucky to have some very good animals- I also do like my taxidermy . Before leaving I had decided to have my Oribi as a full mount in a standing position. However I have also taken a good example of a Vaal Rhebok. Space is alway a problem, so not overly keen on two full mounts in the house- Vaal being a bigger animal would be in a siting position Oribi would be standing.
Vaal measured 10 inches
Oribi measured 6 inches.
Looking for views on which one to have as full mount

If I had not shoot the Klipspringer, steenbok, mountain zebra, bushbuck and oryx I would be doing so .

Here's the thing.

It has taken me a lifetime to realise that mounting heads/skulls and the rest, is massively expensive, time consuming and marriage threatening.





Now I just put a few of my favourite snaps into a frame. The last lot from Mozambique, just sit in the gun cabinet so I get to 'relive' that trip every time I go into it.



All monies thus 'saved', can now be put towards the next adventure....

That’s a great idea, I do the same sort of thing but just have them all in my game book!

Great pictures, hard choice. S1962’s photographs are a good idea, in addition! If space is limited perhaps you could loan one out to a family member on rotation? Or put it in your office etc at work?

Mother in law is expecting some this time. Now work from home so work office is full of them, just have to make sure that the fake background is set up on teams meeting. Not everyone is appreciative of taxidermy .

fair play to you!! Iv yet to get one taxidermied but the few mounts I have the kids friends always come over and act like I’m sort of oddball

Very nice idea. I have committed to having these back now, but definitely worth a thought in the future- luckily I have a very understanding wife who has no issue with the taxidermy / hunting etc ( we met when her horse throw a shoe and I was terrier man for local hunt around 25 yrs ago ).

Not everyone is appreciative of taxidermy.

That is a real thing.

When we last moved house, I was 'ordered' to de-clutter the house, of all taxidermy.

It all went into storage for just over a year.




When we moved into the new gaff, I was 'advised' to re-mount the taxidermy in the 'Man Cave' at the bottom of the garden and not in the house.

Funny how they slowly take over your life that way...

She is thinking off moving now- which I know will be drama as emptying house for sales photos and viewing will be a nightmare, my current plan is to just extent the house we are currently living in .

If you do decide to go the full mount, may I suggest to take a really critical look at how they deal with the front legs. I don’t think I’ve seen a good full mount where the legs look natural. Most seem to be fine with the cats but for some reason, they struggle with the antelope.

It would be a shame to see them looking less than perfect.

Someone I know is having an Oribi full mount done- he has had lots of discussions about the front legs as if they look natural or not already - so that is a very good point

He been sent this as an idea, may well do the Vaal and Oribi like this as taken in the same area, and the Klipspringer and the steenbok done the same on a smaller scale.
