Which thermal spotter to buy

Hi

I need some advice please. I am a novice stalker - only done 8 trips out so far. Pretty much all of my stalking will be in woodland or on woodland margins. I have a decent quality scope (Zeiss V6 2.5-15x56) but my binos are definitely entry level. I am 60 and my low light vision isn’t great (was blindsided by a 22 year old guide the other day - he could see the deer I couldn’t ! ).

I have about £1,500 to spend. I don’t need long range spotting but would like to go for as good an image as I can and would like to have a range finder capability . Do I buy a monocle or as my binos are pretty basic should I buy a binocular thermal. Been looking at Pulsar (more rugged and European quality) but you seem to get more for your money with Hikmicro.

Want to buy it well and buy it once .

Any views and advice gratefully received

Many thanks

I'm using my HIK Habrok 4K in woodland. They're brilliant and definitely worth considering if your binos may also be up for the chop. The thermal isn't the best, it's actually really basic. That is negated though, by the instant switch to the optical channel. This in my opinion, trumps better thermal only devices.

You'll understand when switching from a thermal monocular, to binos to identify. Then switching back to thermal, then back to binos... Whilst trying to equate what you saw in the thermal world, to realise world.

Good point - that takes a bit of practice as I recently discovered when I lost a fox to a mate who was mate stood beside me - he is more experiences at switching between the two. Whacked him just as I was bringing my IR light onto him.

I’d recommend taking a look the ATN BlazeHunter LRF monocular. Firstly the service and warranty is superb which for me on electronic kit of any value is worth its weight in gold.
In use the features are all user friendly and the performance is excellent. The clarity of picture and ability to define surroundings when looking though it makes it easier to then go to standard optics for id.

Certainly one to short list and consider I’d say.

I wouldn’t recommend Zeiss I’ve had all kinds of problems with mine and it have had to be sent to Germany 🇩🇪 twice now the latest is they’re unable to repair it due to the Ukrainian Russian war oh and Brexit doesn’t help either

I still have one AXION XQ35 but find myself getting out more and more with the Habrock 4K. As Jh1956 well explained it runs on a basic thermal but the day and night optical scope make for a way better spotter, 24/24 hours around. And you don't have to bother with the stress of carring multiple items (range finder, binos, thermal, compass) every one with a different focald lenght and differnt colors or B&W rendering, so that every swap is a real pain...in the @@@. The video in attachment may explain better than my poor english. Roe was about 120 mts, I was on hide and prfectly under wind, for boars hunting so I woulddnt shoot anyway. But he flew away. Place is wellknown for wolfes polutation so may be ....

Surprised they didn’t mention Covid

I just bought a Hik Condor and blown away by it. Really really good bit of kit. I went for the slightly more expensive, tad over your budget BUT Scott Country do finance on them and it was a solid investment I feel.

I already own a Pulsar, it was a very expensive product. For UK use I opted for a

HikMicro Condor LRF CQ35L Thermal Monocular

It is just above your budget but I have to say I was very impressed by this unit, less weight than my Pulsar, Easier to use and a lot cheaper. Overall I'm very happy with the Hik Micro product. A reasonable thermal monocular is a game changer.

I would certainly contact Peter on here at ATN or check the website.

Technical blip on the format of the above table Peter?

I don't get on with Hik products. The user interface is irritating and the build quality not great - the buttons, for instance, just feel cheap. I have an Alpex 4k, so I am speaking from several month's worth of regular use.

I have the Nocpix Ace scope, and if that is anything to go by, the Vista should be stunning. The Lumi more compact and a bit cheaper but with slightly less sensitivity. Looking forward to trying both to replace my 6 year old Pulsar spotter which I thought was brilliant until I compared it to the picture in the Ace, and then started to see lots of things that I was missing!
