Who has and uses a double rifle? Or who lusts after one?

On the basis a question was asked on accuratereloading why Brits never post about double rifles - how many of us actually have or use one, or indeed lust after one.

My 7x65r combination is getting another rifles barrel and will become a doubleish rifle in a few weeks time.

Yes I use one to actually deer with.

But one I found very nice to handle in a decent rabbit stopping calibre that had the ability to put a scope or at least an aimpoint on it was this. It handled as good as any chapuis sxs double in 9.3x74R. I never fired it though so I can't say if the recoil was brutal or surgery required because the recoil pad was stiff rubber but that can easily be fixed.

My experience has shown a good reflex sight adds almost no weight but improves accuracy past 100m to no end.

If you have the extra bucks then the fausti is an order of magnitude better for a side by side.

I had a Merkel 7x57r o/u but got rid of it when I came back to UK in '82 as the ammo was not readily available here.
I had the choice of double rifle, double 12 bore or 12/7x57r all three barrels cased, weighed a ton to carry.

I was looking at the baikals too. They are rough and ready, but i wondered if they were the good basis for a project. Re-stocked with a nice piece of walnut into a good shape, the action blueprinted and everything refinished and reblued, could be nice.

I don't mind the baikals. They are okay for the money but if people are seriously thinking of trigger work and restocking can I ask this. If you took a boito shotgun and restocked it and adjusted the triggers, it is never going to be a silver pigeon.

The fausti is fantastic value for money for a side by side.

How much would a fausti side by side be then?

Because realistically only way I'm entering the side by side arena is the animal mp221 in .30-06 for £705 new !.

Thanks to the person who brought this thread up 🤔
Had managed to not think about a double rifle for a while ....

Woodland roe & red and is it suitable for highseat & driven boar ....not that I do boar but dream to.

The fausti ive seen as cheap as 2700 quid second hand. New 3600 quid. Beautiful case hardening. Wood was pretty plain. Handling was awesome, I guess about 3.1kg. Open sights were great. The beauty about the 45/70 it isn't nearly as much to run as something like a 450/400 etc. You can actually shoot it. Enjoy shooting it. Afford shooting it and actually kill just about anything to 180 yards if you hit it.

Gosh, those Fausti are very nice. I immediately had to look them up. Built on a 20-gauge frame, SxS, O/U double and combination guns, in .45-70 Government, .444-Marlin, 7x65R, .30-06 Springfield, 8x57mm-JRS, 9,3x74R and .30R-Blaser, for $4,000 USD. A .444 or 9.3x74R appeals to me.

Beautiful but would have to be the baikal for me [emoji52]

Couldn't spend that on an " itch"

As much as I'd love to

I've seen the Heym o/u doubles go for not much bunce, certainly less than a plastic stocked blaser.
