Who has and uses a double rifle? Or who lusts after one?

Double rifles are normally set up, and regulated for a specific ammunition. My double was regulated for Norma Oryx 285g, at my request. If a double rifle has been correctly regulated, in theory, the bullets should never cross, they should fly parallel to each other, so distance shouldn't be an issue.

They have one of those in my local gun shop in 9.3x74R. Says its made in Belgium with D5 engraving
I used a 9.3x74R Chapuis side-by-side on a driven shoot in France this weekend, and it was brilliant. Great (open) battue sights, handled easily, and a perfect rifle for instinctive shots at c.100m.
Not only have I now got the appetite for driven boar, but also for that rifle! I suspect it would also be really good for stalking in thick woodland: short, points easily, and the quarry is less likely to run if hit!

And an excellent choice of cartridge for roe as well.
(No really, the 9.3 - it's 9.3x62 ballistic twin my case - does a very efficient job on UK woodland deer with little meat damage).

Seriously thinking about a variation now .....
But realistically it would only be / justifiable to me to go for the baikal ....I'm not keen on O&U so it would be the mp221 side x side .
As for ammo etc then it would be .30-06 for availability etc .
But if you have one of these are you using it on deer ?
Can it feasibly be used in woodland open or red dot sight for roe and red?
If you were of the ilk to go back to basics and try open sights ...which I've thought about
What range would you use this to comfortably ?
& obviously the other use would be dream to get onto boar .

Regardless of what anybody tells you I'd get a 2 MoA red dot as a minimum or a 4X scope. Sight it in for the right barrel at 200 yards or whatever you think you need to shoot at. The baikal can be regulated by yourself. The left barrel is only a back up for running game under a 100 but if you find it shoots close enough you might choose to use the second barrel. My mate has the 30-06 and the 45/70. The only thing that really griped me was the position of the triggers, not the trigger weight. If they could be adjusted then I'd own one if that's all I could afford.

I've got a 9.3x57 en route so hopefully it'll be just as effective

I'm sure it will be, and you'll enjoy shooting it to boot.
FWIW I don't stoke my 9.3x62 to the max as the 232gr Oryx over 58gr N140 makes for a very accurate round with excellent terninal effects (at both ends of the rifle

I have a very nicely made solid Thomas Bland hammer 12G sbs and often play with the idea of a second set of say .303s for boar.

Are they factory rifles or aftermarket custom builds ?
Belgian gunsmiths have been building doubles on most B25 / 325 / Winchester / Miroku 20 bores . Also on SKB O/U's wich are very similar to the Merkel O/U's. The 20 bore Merkel/SImson/Wolf S/S's were popular for this also.

Not sure what you mean as the my rifle is the mk 2 and is regulated and then silver soldered at the factory?
