Who went to the beach today in England?

Decent fish. I've only eaten conger a couple of times. Chefs are very sniffy about it but I liked it and the bigger the fish, the easier the bones are to deal with.
Not as good as ling though. And even better, ling roe.
My experience of conger was some years ago, fresh caught and grilled with butter and I found it bloody awful, Ling on the other hand when very fresh is about the sweetest fish I have every had. There must be some secret to cooking conger that I'm not aware of.

Not with terriers, but we do have a pack of Conger hounds here in Devon.......Rough buggers they are!
There is a book called the Jack Russel terrier with a photo of a chap on the shore with his terriers.
When I used to do some terrier work for a Somerset pack in the 60's the local postman had a terrier that would mark congers in the rock pools along the shore from Hinkley point after High Spring tides. I went out with him a couple of times, wild sport.

When I lived down that way (just off Exmoor) one old bugger talked about doing it when he was younger. Glatting, he called it.

You apparently need two sticks. One long one to poke in the hole, then a big thick one for when the conger bites so you can pull it out and whack it over the head.

Aye the old boy I went with had a hook and when the dog marked he hoyked it out with that. The eel.made straight for the sea complete with terrier, and was whacked with a bar a few times. Apparently this broke the skin and as soon as it hit the sea it came out again and was eventually killed. I couldn't believe it when I first saw it. I.even woke up the next morning to go out with hounds and had to pinch myself a couple of times, quite an experience compared with normal terrier work.

Strewth there'll be more p**s than seawater in that bay.

Prefer Bronte beach myself, just round the corner from Bondi. Bit more family and a bit less surfy. And no busy road to cross to get to a chip shop.

But you just got to love the great British public, all swarming to the easy to get to beaches with lots of parking and phone signal like brainless sheep. No public toilets open, no cafes or bars, it must have been really nice! .

Exactly my thinking!
That's why I didn't head to the beach, I went fishing on Sunday - the missus, daughter & me on about a mile of river with not a sinner in sight
Spent yesterday at home fixing up the garden and having a dip in the pool
London isn't too bad when all the feckwits head off to broil in their cars in the traffic jams around the vastly overrated beaches of the south coast.
If/when we head to the beach it'll be when/if travel definitely seems ok and we'll go somewhere the herds ignore

Definitely, Bronte/Coogie is far nicer than Bondi, but wherever in the world you are, I just cannot understand why people flock to certain beaches, madness. Parking, toilets etc must be a nightmare, and where is the enjoyment, pure hell to to my mind.

Just off the beaten track there are some lovely beaches, but no, all the sheep flock to a few and take risks. Two dead in Cornwall yesterday, tragic, one particular “surfer” was rescued of the Devon coast, only third time in the sea and his first ever surf, spring tides on a beach with a rip! People out on inflatables getting rescued everyday, you just cannot make this shite up.

Nowt so weird as folk.

Is conger eel (When sold in fish and chips shops), called rock eel?

Not totally sure but I believe that Rock Eel is dogfish sometimes called Huss, that used to be available years ago with us but I haven't seen it for many years. On the upside we do have things like squid in the local chippy now.

Years and years ago diving for scallops in Cornwall (25-30 dozen a day), if we came across a dogfish sleeping we used to pick them up, sneak up behind one of our mates , give the fish a shake til it was angry , tap your oppo on the shoulder and as he looked round, launch the fish at his mask..........snappy little buggers

A chap from my old diving club, had his mask pulled of by a Huss! As you say “Snappy Little buggers”

I've always known Dog Fish or Bull Huss as "Rock Salmon" when sold in the chippy, maybe different areas have different names for it.
In my mind a good Bull Huss skinned and dipped in batter and then deep fried takes some beating - And there's no bones in it!
Our favourite way is to finely chop a bit of Garlic and mix that in with the batter along with some finely chopped mixed herbs. If you've never tried it that way you really ought to, it's delicious!

Try Whitehaven beach instead of Bondi.
Definitely. Amazing place. Went ashore there during a scuba diving trip. Never seen pure white silica sand before. Cold to the touch and squeaked underfoot like snow.

Having said that, Luskentyre beach, Isle of Harris, Scotland.
Not bad is it? Though the water is a touch warmer in Queensland.
