Game shooting season fast drawing to a close. Just wondered who will be out on their Cock days?

I have been invited out on a rough day today, will be beating Monday, and Beaters day Tuesday, all in all a good few days.
And (work permitting) hope to get at least 1 more day on the foreshore in Feb.

Hope everyones had a good season
Brian

Ey its our last day / beaters day today. Should be a good laugh, the guns are beating for us all day so that deserves some banter in their direction ! They'll also be shooting anything going back, fingers crossed for good woodcock numbers today!

keep an eye out for those buggers that also shoot the one's going forward if the banter gets to much for them:D

out today to give the dog a run
should get plenty to retrieve me thinks;)

Yup, out today and Tuesday. Everything on the menu today and we have a lot of birds around. Tuesday likely cocks only. Have a good day everyone

out yesterday(my day) and thursday, now out today mon and tues as well, some are beaters days some are for keeping the foxes down and managing the deer levels, (huff) its a hard life.

I'm helping out a fellow keeper who has been picking up on my shoot all season. Least I can do is go and help out on his beaters day then crash the shoot dinner. Should be a good day!

Yes out today not the biggest bag but good day out every one had a good laugh which is the main thing ! Out Sunday stalking then Pheasants again Monday then it will be time to get some does thinned out in the coming weeks

I was beating today and yesterday, our beaters days are Monday and Tuesday at the same place.

The keeper was not letting the syndicate shoot hens today so I think there is very little chance of us being able to shoot hens on our days. Cocks only each day will be about a hundred I expect.

beaters day yesterday 163, cocks only today 64including partridge pigeon pochard tufftie canada squirrel crow, proper armed ramble.walked miles and i now ache allover but well worth it

Out and about Monday and then its beaters day on Tuesday at which I'll be standing with a youngster thats started beating this year to keep him safe from the rest of the beaters!!

Was out today on my local shoot - Three of us took out our muzzle loaders - Got loads of stick till we started poleaxing pheasants! The comments changed then!! I took a couple of good cocks with my double 10 Charles Boswell percussion gun and Christopher had a few with his 14 bore - One was a real screamer at 40 yards - Brilliant day out - pitty the sun didn't shine!
Just spent the evening cleaning the beast It wouldn't be right to leave it fouled with black powder residue to rust overnight! - Now I remember why I don't shoot it more often!

Our beaters day is generally mid December so there's plenty of birds for the beaters. Our last day today decent bag, good banter, great lunch, evening duck flighting, few drinks after and I've just got home!! Jobs a good un!! Off stalking in highlands next weekend!! Lifes a bitch!:D

I have always enjoyed this time of the year.

Great days shooting, with strong flying birds that have learnt a thing or two. Real sport IMO

8 days out of the last 3 weeks, and still have 2 more to do before we call it done. :-D

Yesterday was the smallest bag I had seen all season, and by some distance, but it was also the most enjoyable day I've had all season. And not only because it was the only shoot day I've not been working on! Atmosphere was excellent, no one took things too seriously as 80% of the beating team had never beat on that shoot before, but we still managed to show some good birds. There were a few young lads game shooting for the first time, including one of my students, and a good time was had by all. The slightly less than traditional but still brilliant homemade curry and karaoke down the pub afterwards topped off a day that to me showed shooting at its very best!

Sounds like you all had a good day yesterday,
I went out with dad and some neighbouring friends on a bit of a rough shoot,
I shot a woodcock and a hen pheasant the woodcock i was very pleased about.
It has been my first season shooting and iv loved it:)

Cheers Dan

Thats one of the things about back end days. The measure of the enjoyment level is not always based on the size of the bag.

Some of the best pheasant shooting days I've ever had have been towards the end January with fit birds out of rough corners and small spinneys. These birds have been real screamers and very testing. Just as much of a challeneg as the massed flushes off welsh and scottish hill sides and west country banks.

Still you can't beat that feeling of hot barrels and a box of cartridges on each drive. Unless its that long 60 yard crosser on that hard won cock bird flushed by your spaniel out of a thick hedge on the boundary.:-D

Had another cracking days shooting today. Great company, sporting birds and a wonderful home cooked shoot dinner.

Very tired, but still have one more to go.:)
