Seen a post on FB asking the question, "why do we do it?", on this occasion, being up and around in sub-zero at the crack of dawn. I was thinking the same yesterday, not just sub-zero, but a northerly with damp mist in the air making it feel even worse. It was suggested it was to create memories, which I agree with. I hate mornings but put up with a 4:40am start and 2 hour drive to see what many will never encounter. We don't need to watch the wildlife programs, we watch in real time, sometimes creating our own film, but most of the time, just film in our minds.
I enjoy my game shooting, but in no way would I be able to remember a fraction of the shots over the many years, whilst if I was to walk an area, I'd likely be able to remember each of the many deer I've stalked and sucessfully shot. Maybe I'd even be able to recollect them without walking an area as they mean so much more than just memories. There are many memories when I've not pulled the trigger, which of course saved on a lot of hard work
I'm lucky enough to be able to stalk some areas where it's not an issue finding a shootable animal, it's more like how many do I want to shoot, if any at all. If I ever manage to get some of my video together and if I ever loose my memory, I'll be able to relive those experiences once again
