Winter grousehunt

We made a tenttrip with snowmobile in the Swedish mountains to hunt for grouse. We drove out in the Scandinavian alps with our snowmobiles about 20km from the parking space it was a wunderful sunny weather seldom seen in the early part of winter, we set up our tentipi in the last light and got the gas heater running. In the morning it was a fantastic weather I drove out 10km from our camp put on my skiis and had only started then I saw fresh tracks of grouse and a night resting place, I skiied up through the thin birch forest up to the shrub close to the alpine bare mountain, then I saw several grouse running on the mountain I took a few shots with my 22wmr rifle but it was to far so I missed. An hour later I got a new chance standing with my skipoles as a rest and I got one.

J and E hunted with GWP they stay in the birch forest and hunt with pointing dogs J within shotgun reach and E with rifle the distance in the 3 days of hunt were mostly 50-100m so the rifle were used even over a standing dog(70m away). I hunted mostly on the bare mountain tops were the wind blow the snow away so grous can find some food there.

That looks absolutely amazing. Proper winter wilderness. I love how you left the normal roads to get deeper into the real wilderness via snowmobile and then set up camp. This is now on my list of must-do's. Thank you for sharing this very unique and special hunt.

We like to take the little extra effort to go there we want, one august we walked a round trip and hunted grouse for 4 days, last year we used bikes to take us behind a closed gate.
