winter visitors

Amazing sight and sound
We go up to Caithness each year and to see them coming over from Orkney is a sight to behold

We were at Montrose basin yesterday. Not many on the water, but the fields around the area had plenty.

Last weekend I was staying at a hotel about 3 - 4 miles from where these photos were taken and there were a hell of a lot of geese around.
Standing in the grounds after dark you could hear geese moving in large numbers, and it was the same on the Northumberland coast a few days earlier, bad Winter on the way??

I remember those sort of numbers in the 1970s, not many where I live now still see them passing overhead but very few stop.
Still decent numbers on the west coast where I spend quite a bit of time in winter.

Great photos. The first time I saw geese like this I fell in love with it so much I effected the rest of my life. I have chased them in the hunting season living with geese on a daily basis and I have followed them across 4 continents ..

I find it’s a good indicator of the change in seasons, I am on the flight path for them coming and going from a local Loch and the fields are covered with them here. I can be quite a noise some mornings!
