Hi all and thanks for the encouragement. Fantastic offer from Sikamalc, unfortunately I live in West Yorkshire and Sussex is a bit far for my old vehicle.
As to the weekend. Had two potentials.
Number one, fallow buck but could only see its head over the top of a wheat crop. Close enough and safe enough. He looked at us, we looked at him for a couple of minutes, his head bobing up and down as he fed. Then he pranced off bouncing through the crop.
Number two, just before close of play, light going fast, there on a steep hillside was a roe, head down eating. Sticks up, check with binos, no it's a doe. Her mate was further up the hill but no chance of a clear shot. To rub salt into the wound, a fellow stalker, who we'd dropped off at another site, shot a fallow buck within 15 mins of starting.
I would add, reading some replies, that I'm quite happy with the two stalkers I've tried. I'm putting my lack of success down to luck, all bad, or the hunting gods being vindictive.
As to whether I give up? No chance, it's only been two years. My luck has to change sometime although I'm starting to think I've more chance of winning big on the lottery.
