Wish me luck

I don,t think I said anything about treating them with less respect, but I don,t put them on a pedis tool like some people. All vermin should be treated with respect as I have stated on here many times.
Amazingly people on here will smash rabbits/squirrels to bits with various calibres but not consider the waste of food. So I don,t think I need a lecture in how to shoot deer.

Apologies accepted. I am aware of all abilities which is why I mentioned neck shooting being wrong for novices. One should consider how often the deer is so dead centre facing that the bullet will not exit through either shoulder or rear of shoulder forward of the diaphragm. Next consider how powerful your cartridge is. From my experience a 25-06 117 grain shooting at 2 year old fallow or older at 70 metres or more and dead front on does not exit at all or enter the rumen. No mess, all energy absorbed and the deer don't go far either and are certainly not wounded! Therefore if you're using a .243 IMO it's definitely on!
However at no time am I suggesting taking this shot on smaller deer than fallow because yes I agree that the gralloch is not going to be pretty.
Baguio

This depends on the bullet you are using. A barnes TSX could well exit through its arsehole!

Hey JAT, don't give up. Why don't you try some different guides, it can't hurt and you will learn something new off everyone. Most guides I have stalked with move heaven and earth to get me a deer but i have been with one where it was an armed walk. I never went back! I have never stalked with him but Yorkshire roe stalking on here seems to be well thought of and seems to have ground with a number of deer on. Presumably not too far away from you either. Perhaps contacting him would be a good idea. We have all experienced blank outings but some guides seem more lucky than others!

Hi srvet,

please see previous reply of yesterday as to how the day went. Yet another blank.
This thread seems to have gone off line into rights and wrongs of chest, head or neck shooting. At the present time for me its heart/lungs shot only. I regularly shoot 3 shot groups sub 1" at 100 yards but will stay with h/l until my confidence and experience improves.

I can personally vouch for John at Yorkshire Roe stalking as to his commitment of getting the client onto deer. I did find chasing him up some Yorkshire hills testing ............................. no longer being used to hills .

This was the Buck I took with John:-

The size of head as always depends on the depth of pocket. I had intended to have a Cull 4 pointer but we just kept finding 6 pointers so that is what I went for in the end.
