Wool

to reopen this, I bought one of the woolshell jackets this week, too soon to give a review, but first looks are very good, well made and the service is outstanding, less than 48hrs from order to delivery !

I’m still tempted by one of those!

When I can stop throwing the teddy out at my inability to follow a sewing pattern I’ll finish the jacket I’m working on and post a pic or two!

I'd love to give one of these DIY woollen pieces a go! Anyone have any patterns they could send me? Poncho/jacket/coat/trousers/outerwear/something to get the ball rolling! :thumb:

Just been making up a DIY Great Kilt (i.e. just hemming a big piece of fabric), and realised the endless possibilities of a sewing machine...

I think I'd get some pretty confused looks from people if I went stalking in a breacan-an-feileadh (Great Kilt) though... Although quite tempting...

This is a good pattern for a top you can adapt it to a smock without zips easy enough

That looks great, thanks! And how many m2 do you reckon for a jacket? Depends on the circumference of the wearer I suppose

But did I read somewhere on this thread that it’s around 3m of fabric, or am I making that up?

3m will do everything including a hood, regards Wayne

this week a farming friend directed me to a U.K. supplier called Herne clothing, a farmer who rear the sheep themselves, to produce absolutely stunning merino garments. They don’t have many products, but what they do they seem to do well, compared to similar such as Filson Mackinaw, their merino wool jacket/over shirt, whilst not “cheap” for a quality, British made product, it wasn’t over the top at all.
I went for their “Bison” jacket, and first impressions are awesome, it’s smart enough for the pub (chance would be a fine thing) but also feels totally up to whatever the wilds might throw at me and I can see it becoming a firm favourite for general work/play/life. I also only placed the order yesterday and it landed by lunchtime today, non too shabby service!

How are you finding your Herne Bison jacket? @deerstalker.308
