No.....it's going to squirt extremely hot gas right where you don't want it. The cartridge case is a gasket, designed to protect the chamber as well as making using cartridges more convenient than lugging powder, ball, flint, ramrod about whenever you want to shoot something.....

It's not that I'm concerned about.
It's not knowing what the powder is.
It may be very dependent on neck tension for good initiation.

You're probably right, it *should.

Which is why I caveat my reply with 'possible....'. A hot round or particularly spicy powder might (and it's only a very slight chance of might) in that situation spilt the whole case, damage the ejection mech and/ or bolt face. Then you've some problems!

Still not worth the risk for me
