Saw this on an American Forum I subscribe to. £52 a bird including VAT?

I have available some outstanding driven Pheasant and Partridge shooting in the United Kingdom. The season starts on the 1/10/2018 and ends on the 31/01/2019

They are mixed days of Partridge and Pheasant 350+ bird days at £52 a bird including VAT full hospitality which includes food and drinks on the day.

Or a fixed price of £20,000 for a full team unlimited bird’s and full hospitality. Teams are minimum of 8 guns and a maximum of 10 guns.

I have 9 dates left in 2018 all in October:
Monday 8th, Tuesday 9th, Wednesday 10th, Thursday 11th, Friday 12th, Saturday 13th, Thursday 18th, Friday 19th and Saturday 20st

I can also take bookings for the following season 2019-2020.

Example of a day’s shooting would be a 350 bird day at £52 per bird including VAT is £18,200 divided by 8 guns is £2,275 each, 9 guns £2022 each, 10 guns £1,820 each.

Or a fixed price of £20,000 unlimited bird day divided by 8 guns £2,500, 9 guns £2,222, 10 guns £2,000.

You can also book back to back days at a discount for booking two days shooting.

All prices are in Pound Sterling.

Pick up from Manchester Airport where you would be collected by the shoot 4x4’s and driven to the hotel. From the airport it’s roughly an hour and a half to the hotel and from the hotel to the shoot it’s about half an hour.

The shoot or myself will arrange all hotel bookings whether it be Bed and Breakfast or Dinner Bed and Breakfast at the stunning Pale Hall.

Not included in the above prices

Airport pick up/drop off £400 return

Accommodation, drinks and food in the hotel

Cartridges range between £7 and £12 per box of 25 depending on what you want to use and how many you buy.

Tip for the Gamekeeper

Not sure I see the problem, supply and demand surely? I know shoots in Norfolk albeit for wild greys charging £175 a brace, and how much do grouse go for?? Horses for courses.

I couldn't afford it either, though I could just turn up for the shooting and save on the accomodation, but at least all the prices are laid out for people to see and they can decide from the outset if it is of interest to them.

David.

No, not Bettws Hall. But in the West of the United Kingdom. Other than that that's as far as I'll reveal. But is that right, 52.00 a bird, for this season?

I thought the going rate was around the mid to high £30's. Although the price of wheat is on the up due to the availability because of weather. But I don't think that would amount to a £20 mark up on birds. The transport and accommodation is charged separately too, so it isn't that. It does seem pretty steep. Maybe it's a retaliation tax on our American cousins for the taxes Trump is slapping on anything foreign.

Trade tariffs ha ha ha.

Lot cheaper on our place but then you get picked on rather than picked up ha ha.

Its not really wild, some high/extreme bird shoots are up at that price or more. Also, could be one of these high end completely manicured type of places you could toodle from gun transport to peg in your slippers, and never get the faintest whiff of beater or picker up. There's a hell of a money spent on shooting, long may it continue !

Really decent high bird shooting has been at or very near that rate for several years, so nothing new here IMO but it must deliver across all aspects of the day to be justifiable.

I think it needs to be borne in mind that there is a level of commercial shoots in the UK servicing the very, very wealthy, both domestic and international money, far above what the usual shooting community come across.

£52 a bird is probably good value to some. A good friend of mine was partridge keeper on one of the top commercial partridge shoots in the country. Prices for his place were £65 a bird, or £85 a bird if your party stayed overnight at the lodge (most did).

Place is booked up solid, mostly with repeat bookings and a lot of 500 or 600 bird days.

Might be unbelievable to many, but this is going on. These are the type of shoots that are ultimately most likely to really bring driven game shooting to its knees. There is an almost insatiable demand for big bag driven game and a lot of estates have geared up to meet this. The associated issues surrounding disease, given the volume of birds on the ground, and disposing of the bag, need to be addressed before further legislation is imposed from outside.

Would agree with Novice this type of shooting will ring the end for most shoots.
Very differcult to justify to general public these numbers .
More worrying is the non use of many bird carcases from these shoots leading to killing for fun calls in the media.
Shoot it eat it is always my view and all shoots i have been involved in over the years this applies

I find that notion absolutely abhorrent and totally refuse to believe their is a commercial outlay for all these birds after they have been shot all the other issues notwithstanding. I suppose we should be thankful we dont have driven deer shooting in this country could you imagine that im sure there would be significant demand for shooting "semi tame" deer....

No problem at all with the price as it is transparent but the beaters will be expected to do a hard days graft almost for love. I had hoped that NOBS was going to change all that but ..............

Makes our little DIY shoot look good value though

If the birds are really high, all the pricked birds have to be allowed for. Such birds, that are cleared up in the following days, don't feature on the invoice. I presume the £400 pick up fee might be for the entire party.

My spelling is probably wrong but ask Lchechweddygarth how much it costs to run the shoot and all the habitat and land work and then you’ll see why prices are charged.

This add is aimed at rich American hunters in the same way African safaris are. Pasted and copied possibly from Accurate Reloading.com, operated from Dubai and frequented by international hunters from all over the world, the bulk being American. john.
