XL bully and dog breeds…

I can’t see how breed bans wouldn’t work - if the dogs numbers are dramatically reduced they can’t be a problem surely?

And I have lived with newfoundlands, pretty big dogs but I can’t think of a single occurrence of one attacking anyone….Great Danes, again, I can’t think of single occurrence of an attack involving one….

Terriers, I can recall some incidents.

I know it’s more to do with the specific dog but as said I do think some have it in them naturally.
I’ve been randomly attacked by two Great Danes in the last Ten years. ****ing hate the things. They should all be destroyed.

Even though I don't like bull breeds I don't think they should be banned, if you look at the UK on the whole at the minute there seems to be so many more people these days with a dog of some kind and I think that's the problem. People are easily getting dogs (of various breeds) that they really shouldn't be allowed to have. As with most things in life its people that are the problem. You only have to look on forums or Facebook pages for certain breeds and the questions being asked by some are worrying. "If you have to ask that, you probably shouldn't be doing it" so to speak.

Hey......what a surprise!? The snivellers in the SNP decide to do something contrary to what Westminster does - who knew that would happen? Led by my own inept local MSP.
Shame they don't take a bit more proactive action in reducing the number of dog attacks on sheep/cattle, but they're too busy virtue signalling about bloody grouse moor management !

First thing Iv ever agree with the snp on.

I rest my case ! they have no place in the home fully and understand they might be of use in the back of no place far far away ! but even then ?
We don't need another killer in the UK as we all ready have gangs mongrels running around in most towns that are very happy to take a life ! .
Back as a kid we had lots of dogs 14 working gun dogs most of the time all black labs if one snapped or opened its jaws to bit anyone it was shot within a very short time.

who in there right mind let these xl bullys in the country in the first place they were bred as protection fighting dogs
in America its insane more control is needed with these type of dog

This is why I don't like horses!
I handle young stock (foals to 5 years) every day and love them, mostly they are great...and like dogs need to know the rules of who's in charge....but every now and then one of them gets you! I won't have other people's in that are tw@ts any more - life is too short!!

So same as German shepherd dogs
Belgian Malinois , Akita. Cane Corso etc etc etc blah blah etc.

There are 100 breed of dogs that would need licensed in this country

Patterdale terriers would likely be on that list as well.

Haven't read all of the replies but has anyone stated 'specifically' what an XL Bully is from a genetic perspective? How would you prove or disprove that a dog was an XL Bully? How far back do their pedigrees go? Do they even breed true yet?

I think this may have something to do with why the attending Officers have not rushed to confirm the breed.

It will be interesting to see what the owner is charged with, beyond failing to register the dogs if proved XL Bully, as there is no requirement for the dogs to be muzzled within a private dwelling. The scene of this tradgergy being the owner’s front room.

A dog made up of 80% Dogge de Bordeaux might 'look' very much like an XL bully but would probably have extremely different temperament.

I’m all for breed bans, as long as they are restricted to chihuahuas. A more evil incarnate breed cannot be found.

Had the Mayans possessed trebuchet/catapult technology, they would have repulsed the Spanish conquest by launching waves of the little bastages. plate Armor is no defense against ankle attacks

According to the article, he had puppies on the premises and advertised them for sale online, which potentially makes him an illegal breeder. And, the male dog wasn't neutered. So plenty of stuff to charge him with even before getting to his responsibility (or lack of) for the death of the victim.
