XL-Bully dogs

It was what is now known as an XL
Bully , but I really don’t see the difference, it’s basically a large American Pit Bull.
I actually hate the term XL-Bully
Whoever coined it has condemned these dogs from the very start.

As much as I know there are good ones - the unfortunate thing is many have had their nature changed or bred to be aggressive and on that basis I trust none of them.

I see no real use or benefit of them, it won’t be a popular opinion but I won’t have one near my family.

The moron owners around the Aberdeen city area have completely ruined these breeds.

There are a disproportionate number of incidents involving these - that’s just simple statistics.

I guess the question remains what is the point of owning such a dog? It can’t be because it fits in a handbag and is cuddly-cute. Neither will it be much use in running down rabbits or deer as a lurcher with a good percentage of saluki in it is.

Commendable stuff from the Op in terms of unbiased animal welfare but unless he plans to impress his FEO by chaining it to his gun cabinet I’m at a loss to understand the attraction.

That can be said about a LOT of breeds. And just as bad, breeds bred for a specific job yet never getting to do it (& the behaviour issues that brings.)

My taid (grandad) always had staffys. After he died, my Nan wanted to get another, sort of in his memory. She was Irish, so when she saw a litter of Irish staffys advertised she was over moon, even though never heard of the breed.

Comical, 8 months later to see an 86yo blue rinse walking a huge Pitbull!! He was brilliant for me as a kid, loved to play.

He died 3 weeks after her. One of the kindest natures dogs I've ever met.

A lovely story to hear, but also chilling to think had the mood taken him - he could have killed her.

You can’t say that about most breeds.

We can all find stats to back whatever we like. Going on person experience, I've been bit 3 times in my life, Labrador, JRT and a poodle. I've spent all my life living with staffys & Finn McCool the Irish staffys, nae bother. 👍

Were a lot of the dogs on the UK banned list added to it before they had any incidents, based on recommendations from other countries?

I dont ever recall Tosa, Dogos, Filas etc being prevelent.

All dogs have the potential to be dangerous. None of these breeds have the power of the pit bull / staffy or bully XL and the consequences of being bitten by the breeds you mention are likely to be less severe. The pitbull / XL dogs were bred with a purpose and that purpose has no place in civilised society.

Rottweiler? Akita? You wouldn't want any of them ragging your arm! All of the big heavy breeds would cause life changing/lethal damage. Look at police dogs around world, all those shepherd breeds are immensely strong & determined. I'm not saying there shouldn't be sensible dog laws. But I think legislation based on breed is blinkered & purely done by politicians as arsë covering.

End of my opinion.

The stats for bull breeds are clear for all to see, I think only a fool would try and argue from that perspective.

Did you support the handgun ban in '97? Has that law from 1997 stopped the bad guys having handguns in UK??

If you're the type of ned who wants a dog to look hard & use as weapon, then breed banning isn't gonna stop you. They'll just choose another breed. Like I said, a rotty, akita etc trained to behave in that way would be just as intimidating as APBT. And that's all these idiots want them for.
