So I was quite excited to try these bullets out of my 6.5x55 on red deer. I’ve shot a lot of red but mainly with a .308 and my copper round was 130gn Barnes ttsx…. It was ok to about 200m but after that I was a bit dissatisfied with terminal performance.
It’s a long story but this morning circumstances allowed me to shoot two small stags (57kg and 65kg carcass weights). One at 320m and one at 340m both top of heart shots and both characteristically ran 50-60m as they often do heart shot (they were a bit spooked too). But both then expired. Honestly I was delighted both one shot kills and good terminal performance at a reasonable range. There was a little quartering wind but these slippery little fellows didn’t need much windage at all.
Hopefully during the rut a properly big fellow comes my way but so far I’m delighted with these wee bullets. Big thanks to @Yew Tree Fieldsports
Probably the best bullets I’ve ever come across
And more proof if needed that bullet choice is more important than calibre choice?! (Discuss
