Yew Tree 6.5mm TLR 114gn on red deer?

So I was quite excited to try these bullets out of my 6.5x55 on red deer. I’ve shot a lot of red but mainly with a .308 and my copper round was 130gn Barnes ttsx…. It was ok to about 200m but after that I was a bit dissatisfied with terminal performance.
It’s a long story but this morning circumstances allowed me to shoot two small stags (57kg and 65kg carcass weights). One at 320m and one at 340m both top of heart shots and both characteristically ran 50-60m as they often do heart shot (they were a bit spooked too). But both then expired. Honestly I was delighted both one shot kills and good terminal performance at a reasonable range. There was a little quartering wind but these slippery little fellows didn’t need much windage at all.

Hopefully during the rut a properly big fellow comes my way but so far I’m delighted with these wee bullets. Big thanks to @Yew Tree Fieldsports
Probably the best bullets I’ve ever come across :)
And more proof if needed that bullet choice is more important than calibre choice?! (Discuss ;))

Great work.

I was using his standard 124gr 7mm last year on the Red and Sika at 3030fps and they were exceptional. This year I have been using his 80.1gr TLR's on the Roe which too have been great - average distance run was 0m until last week when I shot one a bit too far forwards and it ran 40m. For the hill this year I have just loaded the 114 TLR in my 6.5 Lapua at 3080 fps. Hoping they will work well and your post suggests they will be good.

Just as an aside I have always Hilar shot since the switch to copper. When I get it in the right spot they drop like a neck shot. Much better placement than heart if there is cover about and very acceptable damage.

Good luck with that @NigelM sounds exciting. Your right hilar shot is a good one but I have found these bullets less fussy about shot placement and more like shooting lead? Also 340m is a long way for me so I’m always going for the biggest target at range ie center of chest particularly with a bit of wind about. Mine we’re headed out at 2964fps so decent but not mad fast

Btw what is pushing those bullets at that speed? Barrel length?

24" barrel. RS60. I'm around 58kpsi. It's hot but not seeing pressure signs at 20 degC until I put another 1.0 grain in. Still a bit tough on the barrel at that pressure especially with RS60. Going to find the next half node down on the range tomorrow which should drop to 54kpsi and 3000 fps which will be a bit more reasonable.
