Just heard on itv local that the md of york guns has being arrested in Nevarda ,USA for trying to import chinese made hi capacity magazines for AK 47's and is looking at 20 years in jail if convicted ouch!!!.
 
Oops indeed ! i hope for Gary's sake its just cock up and i wish him a safe return not the best place to get locked up !

Are Chinese made hi-cap mags outlawed in the States or would this just be about fraudulently changing the markings?
 
It might be that parts for the guns had to come from out with china and china has offered a cheaper option change the numbers and bobs your uncle. Un less you get caught and then its fraud and am sure if its firearms and america they have a few other laws that have been broken.

its to do with trade embargos I think - "It is alleged the three flouted a US ban on trading arms with China by conspiring to "smuggle into the United States, Chinese-manufactured drums" containing ammunition for the AK-47 assault rifle" - rather than the actual type of magasines that were imported its more about their origin.

I think you will find the US a bit more severe than that. It was a dodgy deal by Modular Industries and Bremmer Arms that caused Parker-Hale to be closed down so quickly and the destruction of all the firm Parker-Hale which Modular Industries had brought. Some of you may remember that Bremmer Arms were making the 1903 Springfield rifles and it seems they were using original receivers (Actions) which they scrubbed the original numbers and applied their own. The problem came when they decided to import soem into the US.................................... OH dear. To avoid a lengthy jail term the evidence destyroyed, the P-H records which were burnt in a skip in the yard it seems, and the firm closed quickly. Whether any of the directors did get done?.... I don't know the actions that were left it seems were shipped to a country where they would be safe.
 
Hi capacity mags are banned in some states, so they could have been breaking some state laws as well as federal.
 
the usa has some crazy import ,export laws to do with firearms, and woebetide anyone getting caught breaking them.
 
We all know what the media do to make a good story, just seems a little odd, some one with such a good growing business would stick his neck out ,to take such a risk, with so much to loose.....greed !! who knows , maybe it will all be clearer in a few days /weeks.
