Your user name.

Mine came from the military as well, having the Last name of Langford and Bonnie Langford stuck. some thing to do with a little red headed singer strange really I'am 6' 1" tall & black hair, had it for 25yrs now and still get called it by my army mates :-D

Years ago (15 or 16) I used to do a lot of Rabbiting no not the vocal sort.
and my missus bought me a large folding knife about 3 1/2" long blade and about 1 3/4" wide with wood in the handle, with a pouch.

It was great for priesting fish and Phessies.

This was always on my belt even at work, (site work) of course I got named after a certain Mr Dundee, hence I got called The Croc by work mates and sometimes still do

names

Mines from Judith the memsahib and Jed the dog hence JJ :???:
(love them both ) ;)
P.S. Legal have you still got the photos(i might know her)

Mine comes from:

1. The fact that when I'm salmon fishing I've got boxes full of flies, singles, doubles, trebles, tubes, waddingtons, all of different sizes....and all of them Willie Gunns
2. The original Willie Gunn (after whom the fly is named) was the ghillie on the Sutherland Estates, where I go to stalk in Scotland
3. I've used the same nickname elsewhere in the past.

Army call sign; my secton we were all named after Archangles and Serephs, "St Peter" the boss ran out of names (lack of RE knowledge) so i ended up choosing my own from what was left.

Hi guys yes to both questions
was there abou two years ago last but been going for years since I was a kid, even got thrown out for jumping on the stage & crowd surfing while watching OPM playing Heaven is a Half Pipe
am I allowed to post these sort of pics Malc? JayB :-P
second thoughts discretion and all that ;)

Lol I'll think about it ;) maybe I'll post a few on my facebook

8x57 you got one of those? I have an old 8x57 think it's a J bore? .318 cal wanting to use it but been told very dificult to get ammo for it you got any ideas?

Sorry legaleagle, my 8x57 refers to 8x57jrs which is the calibre of my double rifle. As you know 8x57jrs is actually .323 bore. Muir no doubt will jump in now, and try to convert you to using cast bullets. I did come across something on the web the other day about .318 bullets it was one of the major manufacturers, if only I could remember which one.

Well, mine came from the first place l ever stalked and shot a deer [O happy days :-D ], l stalked it for years and still stalk the neibouring bit of ground-well whats left of it as they have put up a dreaded windfarm on it  .

Geoshot
I'm a geologist and I shoot, simple like me.
That and a geoshot is one of the basics in seismics, you set off a charge and listen to the echoes, plus it's best to get it right first time, just like with deer.

It speaks for itself Tom is me 270 the caliber of my rifle.

what estate on sutherland estates do you stalk on willie gunn ?

im a fly tyer i tie a lo of flies for people who come up to the north of scotland to fish for salmon i find that (with good reason) willie gunns are very popular

fly tyer

I stalk at Benarmine.

I've caught nearly all my salmon on willie gunns, but mostly because I pretty much just fish willie gunns! I think salmon fishing is 90% confidence and 10% skill (at least on smaller rivers where you don't need to spey cast), and with a willie gunn on the end of the line I feel a lot more confident, knowing I've caught fish in the past in all types of river conditions.

If you make flies to sell commercially then please PM me. Much as I like John Norris in Penrith I should pretty much be a shareholder with the amount I've spent on flies, only to leave the ironmongery scattered in, around and over the banks of Scottish rivers ;)
