Zeiss dti 6/40

Does anyone have any experience comments (good or bad) with the Zeiss dti 6/40 in use.
I have just returned mine (2 months old) after intermittent problems with cutting out, grainy images, freezing in initialization mode. Sent a number of still images to Zeiss to assist understand the issues.
Considering a Pulsar Telos XP 50 as an exchange ?

None of the Zeiss thermals are worth the money - you are paying for the name and not much else
The Telos XP50 is a much better product in every respect, but don't dismiss other excellent products that are just as good as the Telos and cost significantly less
For example:
HIK Falco FQ50
HIK Condor CQ50L (basically a Falcon with a rangefinder)
Nocpix Vista H50 and H50R

Thanks Bruce. I’m beginning to conclude that myself. Read a lot of posts on the forum last night and YouTube also. Having several Zeiss bins which really suit my eye, I was drawn to the brand !!
Thanks again.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Zeiss scopes and binos - they are excellent products and Zeiss has a well deserved reputation for them
However, there is virtually no glass in a thermal device and Zeiss don't actually make any of the important bits - they buy those bits (sensor, germanium lens, electronics and display) almost exclusively from China and simply assemble them
It's the same with Swaro and Leica - great companies who make fantastic glass products trying to get into a market using only their brand but without any real expertise or in house experience of non glass products

That explains a lot. I think they should stick with optics !!! Not sure if I had a faulty unit however my confidence was blown on it. Made worse as the defects were intermittent! I first reported it within 30 days so the retailer allowed me to exchange for another. I’ve ordered the Pulsar Telos XP 50 LRF model. I had considered the XL but following posts on here and YouTube I opted for the XP.
I don’t fully understand the technology but consider this a safe bet. Wish I’d done as much research at the outset 🤷‍♂️ Ces’t la vie ‘
Many thanks for your feedback, much appreciated.

I sent mine back after two months of issues and replaced it with the Pulsar Telos XP 50 ……. Thankfully I had recorded a potential defect within the 28 days of purchase and the company were great at exchanging it or money back.
Absolutely delighted with the Pulsar in every way. Perhaps I just got a faulty unit. I have several Zeiss optics which are fantastic but their Thermal DTI 6/40 was a huge disappointment.

Zeiss make great glass optics - of that there is no argument, but the problem is that the only bit of glass in a thermal is the very simple lens that magnifies the eye display up to a size that makes it easy for our eyes to see
They may make the germanium objective lens (but I doubt it)
The thermal sensor, processing electronics and eye display are made in China
If you want to buy a thermal that has nothing to do with China, both in the components used and the place of manufacture, Pulsar are your best bet
Also, none of the Zeiss thermals represent good value for money - there are many thermals currently available with the same or better specs that cost significatly less money
As with the Swarovski and Leica thermals, you are paying for the name and little else
