Zeiss HT, worth the money or paying for name?

I would tend to say that nobody has done any R&D on fixed power scopes for probably 30-40 years so in terms of the latest coatings etc they will be a bit last century.
Quick Google, but it might not be true.

If that is the case and fixed powers now have "modern" coatings i would lean that way and spend the rest on something else. its all up to wether they can hang with the victory or Polar in terms of night Time visibility. In that case if invest in a nice set of binos to go with it. Only reason and i mean ONLY for going variable for me would be for the FoV for spotting.

Not sure about the ht but had a v8 and had to be warrantied twice with very light use-poor build quality, and without a scope for over a month each time. Now have a S&B polar t96 and there’s no comparison on build quality, glass seems nicer to my eye too.

iam again tempted to go fixed power and grab an iluminated S&B woth l1 reticle. Anyone try those against for instance the polar? different Price class for sure but just once i am willing to fork out the cash for the glass. But like i said i wont pay it just for variable magnification.

Best buy would be a SH 6x24x56mm Diavari. Expect to pay £1200.
With spare buy a top end digital scope.
Alternatively you won't go wrong with a Delta Titanium.
All depends on what your shooting and when. Also remember as you get older your priorities will change so you may be stuck with a scope that you no longer need or use.

what i shoot with this rifle is wathever is legal and tasty at any night i can see. With no illegal hours here iam not thinking of minutes after dusk but aditional nights in the lunar cycle that i can be out all night. And as i mentioned before digital is not legal for my hunting. I can compensate for lack of low magnification, i cant think of a range in my area i would need more than 8x. Lower mag as an option would be handy but can be compensated for woth binos. Compared to a Delta titanium tho i feel like a HT or Polar probably is in a different class. So my question is more wether a new S&B 8x56 can compete with the polar purely on extra shooting time. For instance a meosport Limited me to 2 days before and after full moon if the sky was clear. Zeiss 8x56 extends that to 4 days before and after full moon at max 100m. I just need binos to spot and identify at that point because 8x limits FOV alot.

For that reason i would get a variable, easier to find my target at closer range. But the extra 1000 would also have to include more night time visibility.

There was a 75mm Diavari but like hens teeth. As you age your eyes will not be able to make best use of your top end scope.
The Diavari with 60 reticule has the dot of death. It is tiny but illumination is excellent. Mine is now only used for load testing but I would never part with it.

72mm.
Still a few of them for sale in norwegian used market...

thats a bit bulky even for me. Il end up either going Zeiss HT, S&B Polar or S&B 8x56 iluminated. Kaps version lacks diopter adjustment for my prescription. Unfortunately the 8x56 seems a bit clouded in mystery in regards to light transmission and wether it is modernised from the old 90s models because in that generation zeiss definitely wins.

S&B Zenith 2.5-10x56 with FD7 illuminated reticle ? Seems to appear regularly on here at sensible money, circa £800 ?

It might be about price range. A sales thing. For 700 you get what you pay for. Why would anyone put the latest best coatings on a fixed power and make the brightest scope on the market out of it as that would surely hamper the sales of their top ranges which are multiple times more expensive.
From what I gathered from Optics Trade reviews, the S&B 8×56 is very good for the money but it can't compete with top models anymore.
Why don't you ask Optics Trade about this. They're experts on the topic and I'm sure they have done extensive tests about dusk / dawn performance of the glass.
