Zeiss v8 rail mounted scope

Hello all, I recently purchased a zeiss scope online. When it arrived I was suprised to see the rail on the bottom. After many hours of google searches I found some mounting options. From what I understand the biggest negative is the scope being a bit high. Does this affect people shooting ability. Do you just adapt to shoot differently? Or are people just making this seem like a big deal. I know many people shoot a Blaser rifle. Is that mount compatible with other rifles. I believe I am going to mount this on a Picatinny rail. Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated and pictures would be great too. Thanks for everyone’s help. Ryan

No big issue height wise on the European rifle such as blaser as you mentioned, I had mine fitted to a sako 75 before I brought a rifle. I would now prefer a rail mounted scope now over a normal scope, No chance of a canted scope. Which rifle are you mounting it to?

I have 2x Swarovski scopes and both on Swarovski Rail.
Might upgrade the z6 for another z8, and will be buying a Swarovski rail again.

You mention scope height.
The Swarovski’s fitted to Blaser Swarovski mount rail is 45mm centre to centre.
A scope in rings would not be any lower as only about 4mm from the 56mm objective and the barrel.
Not sure if Zeiss is higher or lower than that.

It seems like they mount lower on the blazer than on a picatinny rail. This is what Alan said this am.

There are mounts for the Zeiss system, 7mm being the lowest. That mount is designed to fit onto a Picatinny rail or bases so you have the height of the bases to add, 5mm, or rail, at leat 6mm depending on the profile of the action. The lowest mount you can add to your rifle then would be 12mm from top of action to underside of rail so plus the height of the rail to give you the height of the tube above action.

Depends on what your own preference is. If you like cheek weld then you will need an adjustable comb on the stock. General opinion is to get the scope as low to the bore as possible for best accuracy. The higher the scope the greater the effect of any cant on the rifle. Whilst that makes little difference at close range it does at longer ranges.

Shooters in Europe do use them a lot but they don’t shoot at long ranges. Typical high seat shot is less than 80 metres, same for wild boar. Sure you can get used to it. Just personal preference.

Best regards,

Alan

45mm center to center on a 56mm objective with Zeiss.
