I use a swb vitara. easy enough to push out when u get stuck.

Mine pulls our 8x4 twin axle trailer off road quite happily up fairly sloping terrain

Can't be a lot of wieght in it then.
Jimny's are less than 1T in wieght are never going to be able to tow that much. Lost count of how many jimny's/SJ's i've drove over the years (dad got his 1st new one on an F plate and had a new 1 almost every 3 years since, p;us 2nd hand ones before that) but towing was never there strong point even a quad on the road ur dropping gears on some hills.

I'm ure u already know this, and u'd have to be very unlucky to be done for it but strictly speaking u'd be breaking the law towing an 8x4 twin axle trailer with a Jimny, guessing trailer plated at 2+T and ur motor has to be legal for pulling the trailer when full. Police pulled a few farmers coming out of a market with empty boxes and done a few if pckup eas not legal to carry the laden load

Really no ideal motor all have comprimeses, the old SJ long wheel base where cracking motors still no power but had loads of room in them, u can still get them in NZ, the next step up from Jimny's and the weight doubles or trebles so u start to make a mess/get stuck

They are still for sale as LHD in Germany for 12500 Euros for the Taiga version, they now have a Korean transfer box for better reliability .
