N140 data for .243

Use the 90g as a base, it's more conservative, but will be very close.

I use both 87g Vmax, and 90g Nosler BT's, but with N160, and they use the same powder weight.

There is a reason for that and it will be that they do not recommend N140. As above use the 90gr data and use another powder.

Well the reason I'm trying to find more data 87 grain over N140 is I recently purchased a CZ550 in .243 and the previous owner left a paper with a 3 shot group and the recipe. Instead of diving into making the rounds I want to get more info.

My Hornady manual lists 29.6gr starting load, 36.6gr maximum load of n140 with 85-87gr bullets in 243 win.

If memory serves me right, used to get good results with 38.6 grains of viht 140 behind a Sierra 85 grain bthp.

87 vmax, 23" barrel, cci, 39gr N140, 3250fps. Very accurate but I thought a bit hot.

Thanks ejg,Blitking and otisthedog that is the info I was looking for and on the note the former owner of rifle started with 38.6 grains so I am confident that I can develop the load now.

If there is nothing in the powder maker's manual, try looking in the bullet maker's manual.

I load 37gr N140 under 87gr Vmax , great load, very accurate.

A rule of thumb I always go by for .243, .308 & . 303, is that if the max load is less than 40grn, the powder's too fast. I'm not saying it won't produce workable loads, but you won't get good load density, and I suspect you won't be doing the longevity of your barrel any favours in the long run.
