Infomation on landrover freelanders 2

FL2. Got one with 175k on it since new in 7 years, not any major things wrong with it really. Great work horse deceptive room inside, and can be cleaned up to use for the more smarter things in life, like going to Roding Armoury. Had a new Japanese 4x4, three months ago, and got all my money back ..... second time now, so never again. Bought another FL ....

What a Mine field of info lads. So more web pages and reports of faults and pro's con's me thinks

A wise man once said "if it's got tits or wheels it will cost you money", never a truer word said no matter the marque!!!

anyone one Even honest john ?? Q&A from EJ site ! (Not as sharp on the road as other 4x4s. High number of automatic transmission, steering rack failures and camshaft failures on 2.2 diesel. Epidemic of rear diff failures.
Updated 19 September 2015
plus lots more bad news for my number one on my list
43 faults and 3 recalls across the range and years OMG

So ford and jap now in the running as the forester fuel is't that good?
I had a steering rack failure on mine (08 plate less than 60k miles at the time )
I have to drive it really steadily to return more than 30 mpg

I had a freelander 2 and it was a great little truck, put a set of general grabbers on and it went anywhere I put it. Ground clearance was obviously the key but it kept its nose clean. I didn't really have anything other than fair wear n tear issues with it... The 4wd system is the best you will find in that crossover type market it really is very good! I swapped mine out when I clocked up 130k miles with no issues. On the down side as Ed above pointed out the fuel economy wasn't the best in its class but for what it lost in MPG it made up for in ability...

Must be six years or so now since I owned my last LR, moved into a Jimny, never been stuck with it, and will go some places I wouldn't have tried the Defender, considering either a Yeti 4x4 / Scout 4x4 /or Tiguan this time round.

Fl2 2.2 diesel, 07 plate, 6 figure mileage, no problems at all, much bigger than it looks, great everywhere.

sadly , Landrover products are phenomenally unreliable , every one I have ever had has been shockingly unreliable ! great cars to drive , good off road with the right tyres and in the case of my current range rover remarkably good on fuel but even the brand new cars I was lent whilst my cars have been serviced or repaired threw up faults!

you might tolerate the reliability if they were priced accordingly but in comparison to their reliable competition , brace yourself because they are going in dry !

I would have a Subaru over a freelander all day long.

My wife has had her FL2 for 4 years with only the usual servicing and pads / discs. It's surprisingly capable off road and a very comfy car on long journeys. 2.2 is the one to have.

I have been a great fan of the FL2 since it was introduced with more than 180,000 miles in two vehicles without major issue. Changed this year for a Subaru Forester only because the FL2 replacement the Discovery Sport available then had 7 seats, no boot and no spare wheel. I hope you are aware that they are out of production now.

I had a disco sport on loan while my RR was being repaired again , the disco sport broke down while I had it !

To be fair I've a relative who works for a Land Rover dealer and he reckons the new disco sports have been breaking down between the car transporter and the compound around the back of the dealership! The ones that have made it generally are breaking down when the poor soles have picked them up and on there way home! Poor QA from the factory plus rushing development... I must say that my Freelander 2 was excellent im not to sure about my current range rover (fingers crossed!) As an aside I believe I read that the new 2016 toyota hilux has been nine years in development prior to release to market...

9 YEARS ! jesus that is a long time !

I own a 08 HSE auto with 60k miles but mostly short journeys so it's had quite a bit of work. No repairs until this year when I needed a new rear wiper motor which was dead easy to change myself (thanks for the info Apache!) for about £100. Also needed a new boot lock which I could have also done myself if I could have got the boot open (The mrs shut it when it was playing up grrrr). I fitted my own non genuine tow bar 12 months ago and have had no problems what so ever so don't believe all that you read! No gremlins with the electrics or anything. Check all the doors open properly on one button press though because the solenoids can get lazy with time. By all accounts it has been a great car especially once I changed the road tyres to General Grabbers! Nice and comfortable front and rear seats too!
Don't be fooled by the forums about bad cars as people only write complaints about anything, never positives! They are very safe and solid cars which does reduce fuel economy compared with Suzukis and the like but you can't have it both ways.

I have an 09 FL2, only problems I have had so far are a stuck rear caliper which I managed to free myself, replaced tyres (usual wear and tear) and front and rear pads and discs which had been on since new (also replaced fairly easily). The rubber trims around the wheel arches are pants, I have taken them off completely as they had warped in the sun. I might replace them but I doubt it! Typical MPG for me is around 33.4 - 35.0, but on a decent long run I have recorded over 41mpg. I had a thule tow bar fitted by indespension in Carlisle and it cost (if I remember) £210 with twin electrics (nothing was said about quirky electrics on an FL2?). Also, the wheels are pretty shoddy. Mine have a quite a few blisters and flaking paint on the rear, and all the rims quite clearly letting air out of the tyres over time, but I am about to take these in to get sorted - I've been told it will cost £10 a wheel to get the rims cleaned for sealing and tyres re-fitted. Other than that, I love it - it's comfortable, plenty of space for my needs.

Top comments gents and on the button as to what I was requesting good and bad reports but all sound on the cars that have been use in the real world not some poxy top gear add ???.
will be trying one out this weekend hunting for some bucks  if Roedenator has left any around lol ( see you at 2pm ), also as I don't have a car at the mo , I am hiring a Ford kuga, Nissan, VW crossover so what ever one turns up ??? it depends on if they took notice of the wish list at time of booking a 4x4 to go down southwest , so I can wrag it and test it out for a few £££ but know if I like it or not! , next month i will hire a FL2 for my next trip up to Lincolnshire .
:tiphat:

First thoughts on the Kuga i'v just collected ! lots of buttons and nice to drive so far, got a long trip so i'll find out over the weekend .
