As above I had a Rem 700 ADL that I converted to BDL and now would like to change it to removable magazine,but have heard that it isn't possible is that right,and if not has anyone here done it or had it done?

Check out the AI bottom metal and mag ...

Simple conversion, various manufacturers do bottom metal for the remington 700 that will accept a magazine.
 
Martin, I will try and post one that I have done exactly the same road as you !
After I did that I found a better way to 'control' Deer, see additional attachment from my younger days !!
A bit of a jump from 7.62mm to 175mm ;-)
 
There are two that I know of which are simple drop-ins to a BDL stock. One is made by PTG and uses the single stack magazines from the original L96 AI (NOT AICS magazines!), the other is actually also made by PTG, but is sold under the brand name of Wyatt Outdoors. If you have a long action then the Wyatt is the only one I know of that does not require stock inletting.

There probably are others, but all of the ones I've seen available easily in the UK appear to be horribly overpriced US imports, that require a lot of stock inletting to allow you to use the, apparently very good, AICS magazines.

I was going to try and do this myself, but came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth the requiered effort/expense....
 
EMcC: What's the drop-in to get from 7.62 to 155? I'm sure I've seen it done somewhere but can't for the life of me find the right screw pitch for the dozer blade attachment.
 
The 175mm was the big daddy in it's day, the only downside was that you had to get a few mates to watch the fall of shot as it was usually about 30Ks away.
Back on track, the conversion kit I used was got from the states and does need inletting in the stock but once done is a much better, in my opinion, looking and handling job than the easier fitted ones that stick out and make you sporting rifle look like a machine gun.

I looked at these too, but they only seem to be available in Long Action. I did find a Canadian Site listing the short action KwikKlip assy for Rem700, but have never found anyone with actual stock of them. I tried contacting the manufacturer (Trexler) whilst I was in the U.S. last year, but they never resopded, which was a pitty as I actually had to drive past their factory in Bethlehem on my way to Cabelas....

EMcC's solution looks like the Remington factory DBM. There were a lot of these on eBay in the U.S. Maybe they are OK, but they have a poor repution for some reason. The point about having a dirty great battle rifle-style magazine is well taken though - it does not have the look of a classic sporting rifle. I have also read that the magazine release catch on AICS systems is easy to accidentally depress when in thick cover, especially if crawling backwards...

FWIW, having thought a lot about this same issue myself, I have come to the conclusion that changing from the floorplate design of the standard BDL would not really benefit me in the way I use my rifle, and if I did go down the route of fitting a DBM I would chose one that didn't require stock inletting, simply so that I could remove it without having caused any damage. Since you've presumably still got your ADL stock anyway why not go nuts? 700 stocks are not really hard to come by so you wouldn't be risking much.

Whilst I think of it, have a look at the Magpul Hunter stock + bottom metal. Looks all horrible and tactical, but is AICS compatible (with the bottom metal) and would certainly be "different" for a UK stalking rifle!

Did you get it from Cabelas?

The only ones I could find actually available to buy were Long Action, but given the price point that they are at, if I could find a short action one it might change my opinion on whether the exercise was worth undertaking...
 
IIRC it came from cabelas, a friend in missouri sent me it with two 4 rnd mags and one ten round - must admit that I prefer the 4 round mags. It was a drop in for the std bdl relief.
 
HS precision do one but they are expensive and getting hold of them is hard I think Browells do them available for l/a and s/a
 
I have a Remington 700 CDL in .243 - I think it's the same floorplate as the BDL. I've just taken delivery of a short action Kwik Klip magazine conversion kit from Cabelas. They won't export them, but I've got someone to bring it back for me. I'll let you know how it fits.
 
I have earlier today met up with a very kind gent known in the corridors of SD as Mr. EMcC and I ended up taking home with me a mag set up that should be perfect,and when I do get round to fitting it I shall let you know how it all goes.......thanks Eddie.

For what it's worth, I've now fitted the Kwik Klip to my Rem. 700 CDL .243. I'm very impressed - it required no work at all, it simply slotted in. Rounds cycle without problem, and it feels well made. $110 from Cabelas, but you do need to find someone to bring it over, because they won't ship to the UK.
