Do we assume the worst of our FLD?

How do you rate your licencing team?

I must admit Police scotland really have their act together when it comes to firearms Certs, I put in a variation last week on tuesday had my cert back on saturday dropped it in myself checked over and returned cannot fault them really

Not on this side of the country!.

Glasgow gets glowing reports but Edinburgh have a massive backlog - so much for a single force and sharing resources

Well your MP will be about as useful as your PCC so I wouldn't bother.

Back to the question of FLD's, I would say that if any FLD can be worse than West Mercia then they should be awarded a medal, because the effort they will have put in to achieve it is absolutely remarkable.

My apologies if I appear negative but it is based on my life experiences and issues that I am still dealing with.

Don't ever apologise for telling the truth. You should be proud to speak up.
As you say, getting back to FLDs, they are nothing to do with the police just civvies pushing paperwork about which must be kept within the law. Like any other job really

Just had my FAC & SGC renewal and a variation completed by Northumbria in under 3 weeks.
Great communication throught via e mail and telephone .
Well done Northumbria

Tom and Hogey,
Very pleased to hear of your good service. Its ironic really that we in GMP are having such huge delays, and one of the reasons why is being quoted as the atrocity that occurred with that deranged guy going rampant in Northumbria with a firearm a while back, and the need for even more stringent checks to protect the public.

I have been licensed with Northumbria for 43 years and have not heard of any "deranged guy going rampant in Northumbria with a firearm "

Hogey, wasn't being sarcastic. Genuinely pleased you've had good service. And yes I was referring to the incident in Northumbria, as that was what I was stating gmp said when I was asking why I had and still am waitin for my fac sgc to be returned.

Is there a human being alive with half a brain cell that would actually think, stricter gun controls would have stopped Raul Moat?
Incredible, that you can go into a pub and buy a gun, yet law abiding citizens can't buy from from RFD without jumping through many hoops.
Where as it all gone wrong?

Can't fault Norfolk FLD, opened my ticket after 1 year and just applied for a one for one variation which was back in 3 days.

Just curious but what was the reason for givin you a open after 1 yr, how many deer had you shot and how many days shooting had you carried out in that time, not having a go at you, but just tryin to figure out the logic behind closed certs.
I know of many people getting letters to say they have done this or that, just to obtain a open ticket.

Hi Taff,
I too had my ticket opened after just one year, but I only had .22LR at that time. I just wrote a note asking for it to be opened so that I could carry out pest control for other farmers.
When I applied for variation for a deer legal calibre, about a year later, it was open from day one. I had not shot any deer (still haven't), and had been stalking just once, with someone off this site. I did not need any letter or reference or anything to back this up.

I don't suppose that's any help to you in figuring out the logic!

North Yorkshire are absolute legends!

From initial FAC application to the licence being in my hand, 28 days. Variations, one took 10 minutes (I'd taken my licence to headquarters) and another (not immediate due to staffing levels but it) was less than 24 hours. The person dealing with it had come in to work early (8am) especially to do it for me.

They were even happy to put my other (I've got more than one) 243 on a 3 month ticket.

It's the little things like this that I think help. Also, a lot of the staff in the department are shooters themselves, including Dave, the manager.

A Gamekeeper friend had some muntjac culling that needed doing and I was available but the land wasn't cleared. I shoot foxes for him on his shoot about 120 when I applied for the open and about 20 deer inc Reds, I was out 2/3 times a week shooting and always demonstrated good rifle safety. I have my DSC 1 and when I spoke with my FAO he said I had probably done more in my first year than some do in 3yrs. How many Deer you have shot should make no difference in you getting your ticket opened.

I was told by North Yorkshire that there's no such thing as open or closed tickets, only restricted or unrestricted. All mine are unrestricted (basically meaning that it's up to me to decide whether the land I'm shooting on is suitable for the calibre (police passed or not) and, if it all goes wrong I'm the one liable) and have been since first application in 2001. My brother is in West Yorkshire and he has a restricted licence. He's restricted to the land he has specified on his application but, he's also able to shoot on all land passed for his calibre by the Chief Constable for the area he's shooting in. A lot of my land isn't passed but with my licence I can still shoot on it whereas he's unable.
