Rebarrel

You been asked already

Again

What's your first hand experience that's he's not as reliable honest & as busy as he claims?

If you have such an opinion it's gotta be based on first hand dealings ?

Yes or no ?

Paul

Things 'said' and an open forum are obviously written so you are clearly correct. The fact that you are intelligent enough to know the difference would indicate that you are also intelligent enough to know of the possible implications. Hiding behind a user name and putting 3 different locations does not make you untraceable. Good luck!
MS

Samo old MS, the faceless, gutless and spineless all hide behind their keyboards.

This is what brings the site down every time.

Im not hiding, my locations are where i live, work and hunt, lots on here do that.

so far i have said nothing libelous whatsoever. I simply tried to get to the bottom of Emcc's untrue claims about industry pricing. Read my posts before jumping on "save poor james" bandwagon.

So, the insinuation that James is unreliable, dishonest, and constantly lets people down compared to other rifle builders is not libellous or damaging at all to his business?
Good luck in court with that!
How about you actually get some work done by him before jumping on the "let's bury James" bandwagon? Without that, your comments are not only libellous, they are pointless and without value.

When I decided to have my Tikka T3 .25-06 rebarelled I spoke to numerous Rifle smiths around the UK .
One claimed I needed to have a 6.5x47 as he was head shooting 600+ wild Fallow a season at 350yrd !!!! One claimed when I thought he was to expensive for me said his price was the going rate unless I chose €¥¥$¢ Bergara Barrel from a guy down South another inspire of leaving both Home and Mobile number + email never contacted me. These people have all have rave reviews on here.
When I contacted James ( Jaeger SA ) he never pushed a calibre asked what I wanted and what I intended to use Rifle for.
James stated also LEAVE a message i WILL always get back to you which he never failed to do even at 10pm sometimes. The price James charged myself was very very competitive the work was second to none all the time James kept myself uptodate with progress.
My Rifle shoot's like a dream looks superb Everything I could have wished for
James since I picked my Rifle up still to this day drop's the odd text to see how myself and Rifle are doing.
IMHO James is a Top Top bloke does superb work and certainly does not deserve the Flack he get.
Keep up the Good work James

I was wondering if anyone has had any bad experience with a begarra barrel who has had experience with other makes of barrels?

Shooting them, building rifles with them, or both?

Shooting them since this appears to be topic. I think very few can vouch in terms of smithing. I'm sure all gunsmiths have a barrel make that they prefer due to their tooling etc. Lothar walthar appear to be be a very hard steel so possibly no cut as nice as the more typical steel used in other barrels - its only an example.

Thanks straight pull for the link.
the replies by Grant Taylor says enough - better than standard but not a full on match barrel.
I did suggest that this is a stalking forum. Most of us on here like to get within a "Gentleman's stalking distance".
If they are considered better than standard, well that should be considered better than Sako etc.

I am not in any way able to make an opinion better than Grant Taylor. His shooting records, success and machining of his own competition guns I would suggest say he can give a better educated opinion than most.

For stalking needs, I would suggest that begarra barrels should be better than required for our purposes needed and discussed on this forum. Afterall we are not shooting for competition, but humane dispatch at sensible distances of deer.

if you read my posts i havent slagged off any barrels, i have simply tried to quantify why you are quoted as being 1/3 of the price of more experienced rifle builders, which you are not. You are comparable in your labour costs which i have pointed out. Thats all. I wouldnt give you work because you seem to be "buying it" buy providing cheaper (possibly inferior, i dont know) barrels and using smoke and mirrors to make yourself look better value, which you are not. when someone does this it rings alarm bells that business is not good. There are other rifle builders out there that are more reliable, honest and dont constantly let people down.

as for my knowledge of barrels, its ok thanks, i've had a couple of good ones, fitted properly too.

So straightpull6547, this isn't liableous, all fact based on your experience and first hand dealings...someone has a different opinion. Stay posted...

How is that 6.5x47 doing out of interest? :)

Typical SD, some one asks a reasonable question and it turns into a slagging match. I have never had work done by Jager SA but have spoken to him about things and he comes over as a very capable and genuine person. If you don't like the work done by him, fine, go somewhere else.

Ive just read through this thread its gone in circles! Ive had great experiences with various rifle/barel combos begara being one of them in fact my favourite to shoot is a begara, if i do my bit its near on bullet on bullet at a 100m and a few members on here have done the same with it,
That rifle was built by James and i am one for buying top gear that doesnt mean the gear that costs the most money! But what works well consistantly. I bet the likes of Tuck & others slating the barels and workmanship of James have no actual experience of either,.
To be honest it makes you come accross as small minded & childish.

Do your homework if your looking to get work done, look at what you can afford where in the country you are and speak to the gunsmiths you have on your list.
Good luck.

Sorry to the op as this seems to have de-railed the honest thread he started

Wow another thread derailed by the few and the knives out for James.

I made the mistake of not useing James. I chose another rifle builder some good distance from me because I fell for his sh** at a show.
I was quoted 10 weeks for a rebarel job which I agreed to and payed my deposit some 34weeks later I got my rifle after another gunsmith getting involved without the load data I was told it would come with.
it shot ok but no better than a factory rifle at first I thought it was me so I got a few other lads that can shoot well to try it with the same results.
I eventually spoke to James who said bring it down an hour later it was in his lathe. The problem was the muzzle thread was way off. James re threaded it there and then it now shoots how a semi custom rifle shoud.

leason learnt James will be first to call on another build.

Read into it chose who you want but paying more dosent always get you a better product.
