I eventually spoke to James who said bring it down an hour later it was in his lathe. The problem was the muzzle thread was way off. James re threaded it there and then it now shoots how a semi custom rifle shoud.

leason learnt James will be first to call on another build.

Read into it chose who you want but paying more dosent always get you a better product.

I remember it well, the thread was about 0.010 out from the bore, all peachy now though. My Lion King DTI and knock off threading tool from Halfords done the job nicely. Ffs :D
 
I have just wasted 20 minutes of my life that I will never get back reading this thread! What a complete pile of crap! What the f**k does James's hourly rate have to do with his standard of work? straightpull6547 I am sorry but you have come across as a bit of a muppet! If James puts his rate up to £200 an hour does that suddenly make him the countries best smith? People work all week to earn their wages and it's up to them what they spend them on, if someone can't quite stretch to a Bartlein etc fitted by Callum Ferguson so what, as long as they are happy with their investment, that's all that matters!
Some garages charge extortionate hourly rates yet I wouldn't take a wheelbarrow in to them!
I have a Custom rifle that cost a lot of money yet I am not that narrow minded to think it's the worlds most accurate rifle.
People need to get a life and either get out shooting and enjoy what they use or sod off and join another forum for whinging ****s!
 
Well guys i'v just collected my 280 ack after having a brake fitted ! by a guy use'g on a rubber lathe and plastic file, he also had a tommy tippy bib on as he was eating rice and cold custard, when I tried to talk to him he just sat on the floor spitting out his food ? it was obvious to me the guy had no clue as to how to build a rifle! that can hit a 2" spot at 600-900 yrds away ?? the guy also had a red nose and the whole nine yard toy plumber kit and a big floppy hat that was on the floor next to him.:shock:

planet are some of you lot on! first sign of blood and the sharks come out to play :suss: I for one am fed up with reading drivel like I have just posted. So I will put it as best I can ! if YOU wish to PAY for the same end result ie a bullet on bullet rifle then GO right AHEAD for feck sake.
I too used to have top smiths put component parts together and now have two rifles with Bergara barrels both made by different guys ,Oh sorry i'll use the nick name that is NOW the gun plumbers :doh:all have done the job and have passed proof and have shot the same as my 6k AI or 4k RPA,:shock: shock horror I can't believe it's true !!!! I now own two rifles for the cost of the rpa plus glass very happy with my choice and cash in the bank that I can use for anything I wish as its my Choice ?? .

As for the rates charged i'll give you a small true heads up my pal used to make one off knifes for all events they sold in the uk and are very well made with jap saki city steel. He then moved to the USA but he could not sell even his top hunting blades at $400 he ask why after the show he was told to put the cost per item up by 10 ? I think you know what happened he could't make enough of his knifes so he sold his stock/name and now sits on coco beach ? well done Chris your cheapo knifes added up to 100k inc the factory unit and you sold out for 3.5 mil .so what I am getting at ? it is some like to pay more for stuff so they can fluff out there chests and say MY CAT IS BLACKER THAN YOUR CAT coz it COST more :stir: can we get back to being about STALKING?

Seen it, I already know it shoots like a laser. But I'm lying and dishonest and do substandard work according to straightpull6547...one word springs to mind in all this...but I'll save that for when I get the info back I've requested. :)

WP_20160419_18_24_07_Pro.webp I WP_20160419_18_24_07_Pro.webpi brought this rifle of James 2 or three years ago and I don't know how Manny thousand rounds have gone though it but I took up the range the other day and shot four throw the same hole ,there is no doubt that his work is good so you will have to wait for it that's your choice there are others that are good as well I just had my 308 rebarelled at fore lock and load in Newmarket madco barrel stainless 600£ ish about six week away and shoots quarter inch a a hundred yards that's with out playing with the load the choice is yours,but for people too bad mouth someone's business on a public forum is shameful and spineless especially if you have not had 1st hand experience with his work ,the people that I know who have have 1st class work done by him end of rant

It seems that at least once a month a thread pops up like this having a go at James. Everyone is allowed there opinion but it does get a bit tiresome, of course I could just not read it which would be the simpler answer and more often than not I don't, however it annoys me when people abuse other people with which they have never dealt with or all the facts.

I have had multiple rifles from James, along with other work done by him, including the supposed poor barrels he fits. I have never been dissapointed by his work or the rifles, I was only talking to him last week about them saying how I have 100% trust in them and when I pull the trigger I am completely confident in the rifle which personally I think is one of the most important things with shooting, any doubt in a shot and you will more than likely miss.

I have no issues with James' work and certainly not his prices. I might not know as much as other people about all the different components etc etc but what I do know is how to shoot and James' rifles have always done him proud. He might not be the fastest but no different than any business you can only have 2 out of 3. Quality, speed or cost. Plus when your the only person doing every role in a company, what do you expect but then that's what keeps the quality and cheaper prices.

Aside from the points made in this thread regarding what can only be described as industrial sabotage, as I cant see any facts to substantiate any accusations which may be harmful to a mans livelihood and business.

Something that a lot of people don't think about is that the already busy moderators of this site have to go through these threads in order to deal with them and the members as they feel is necessary. A thread that started with a simple question from somebody seeking guidance from what should be considered as a well informed community / pool of knowledge has turned in to 14 pages of bickering that will consume the time of those who try to make SD a nice place to visit (the moderators).

There are site rules in place to avoid these threads but obviously these are not being followed.
