I thought I would share a few pictures of my first range session with the Tikka T3x CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor, it’s the first bolt action I have purchased since I moved to TX. I was a little rusty with the rifle as I have been mostly shooting pistols since arriving (making up for all those lost years since the 1997 ban).
The rifle has a 20” medium heavy barrel 1:8” twist and 10 round detachable mag. I have fitted a Nightforce 4-16x42 F1 ATACR (MOAR) in Seekins rings. The muzzle brake is Canadian, the Insite Arms Heathen.
I am pleased to say that the Tikka lived up to its 1 MOA promise with the American Eagle 140gr OTM. Estimated velocity is 2570fps in this short barrel. I haven’t tried any other ammo yet, I will probably give the Hornady 143gr ELD X on the next batch of ammo. This was the first 40rnds through the gun, I didn’t bother with the barrel break in.
All shots were taken from the bench, resting on the range bag in the picture. Orange dots 100yd, pink diamond 200yd, green diamond 300yd. The groups were around 0.75 MOA, 9mm in the picture for perspective. I zeroed at 100yds and used the 2MOA and 5MOA lines to hold for 200yd and 300yd.
Overall I am pleased with the set up so far, I wanted a rifle to double as a range gun and hunting rifle and stay close to 10lb. The negatives; the box magazine rattles a bit which may be an issue in a woodland stalking scenario and the 10[SUP]th[/SUP] round is pain to get in it.
