Rebarrel

Some people will readily spend c£300 to put £40 worth of venison in the freezer, while some people quibble about paying c£900 for a rifle barrel. You pays your money and you makes your choice.

I now feel I can comment from actual experience of the product,:), I originally sent James my old shot out .270, firstly as a "Hospital" job, something he could feel free to tinker with if he had quieter periods, I had a stopgap 25.06 that was more than adequate for the Roe present on the ground, time did not enter into the equation, ..... I drove the 180 miles into Jame's territory on Saturday morning, collecting from James in person, good to put a face to the voice on the phone (communication had been faultless throughout), I had been sent an e mail attachment showing a three round card @ 85 yards, factory Norma I think, all holes were interlocked so looked promising, the sooty black Cerakoating on the LW stainless barrel looked very good too.

First thing on arrival back home was to thoroughly clean through, after the first pass of patch I immediately noticed the difference in lack of resistance pushing through, I realised that I had a properly finished tube here, very different to other work I have been in receipt of , satisfied that I was going to be starting with a clean barrel at Altcar the following day, I looked out some old loads from stock, 130 grain Partitions over H4831, very accurate in the old barrel before I fried it in Germany.

Cutting to the chase, 'I' range @ 200 yards, butts party belonging to Warrington club, reporting a half inch 5 round group, piercing the spotting disc, not shabby using a Schmidt 8x56 reticle.

Only downside was, it did not like my choice of moderator for the day, but that should change when I get a Hausken for it..

Crikey, i reckon that based on the prices quoted if i need a new barrel on a rifle it will be going to Jager.

Callum Fergusson up here is over £1,000, few other folk hover around the £750 mark.

Dont really care what barrel goes on, it would seem that Jagers work shoots well which would be good enough for me.

If you're looking for good value for money up this neck of the woods, it's worth trying PJS Precision by Forfar, did a Sassen Rem Varmint 6.5x47 for me plus cerakoting whole rifle including mod, £650. Alternatively Grant Taylor does championship standard work without charging silly money.

that seems absurdly cheap given previous comments
Both are one man bands with no commercial premises is all I can really comment. I've been very happy with work done by both guys. I am also very happy with work done by Jager, similarly well priced.

I got through it! I guess deerstalker39 has got his answer!

For my money I would highly recommend James Clark. He's done work for me and others I know with great results. I've shot rifles he's made and found them super accurate. He recently re-barreled a rifle for me that another gunsmith ruined (due to the roughest and most uneven and off-centred chamber I have ever seen) - but James has put it right!

I hope deerstalker39 saw through some of the drivel written on here and gave James ring.

comparing Callum Fergason and James Clark is like a Comparing a Metro to a Rolls.

Really, and why would that be then? What makes Callums turning, threading, chambering and fitting a rifle barrel Rolls Royce class and James's only metro class, please explain.

Ian.

Rocket science and fairy dust? Possibly marketing? Dunno? They only fit it, not cut the rifling with hand tools.
