I have a Sako 75 in .338 win mag for more then ten years and it has given me excellent service. Take a good look at Sako 85 in Brown Bear or Kodiak model in the same caliber. Also take a good look at Sauer 404 or a used 202 model.

Well if you go Blaser barrel you have 8.5x63 (Improved 338-06) and 338 Win Mag. There is 338 Blaser as well but I wouldn't bother with that. 8.5x63 is reload only and relatively advanced as the shoulder is moved forward before fireforming to correct dimensions.
So if you go Blaser only the 338 Win Mag is sensible from a ammunition standpoint. That been said, may be too much of a good thing for your needs.

If you go custom then 338-06 is a superb choice.

As had had been said above, it depends on your intended use really.

i want to go full on 338 and was debating between the Lapua mag (Both improved and standard) or the .338 Edge as for game its going to be long range foxing (1000 yards +) :)

In that case i suggest using the Hornady 285gr ELD-M bullet as it has an out standing BC and the closest thing you going to get to a V-Max

Ooooh well I've just seen that Blaser do in fact make a 338 Lapua barrel. Probably the easiest way forward but if you're wanting something like for serious long range shooting then a custom with a long heavy barrel in a heavy stock would be nice.
Steve Kershaw has a match grade Lothar Walter .338" barrel in at the moment. It's in their heavy match target contour I believe.

I have a couple in 338 win mag, but they are very different in application. One is a 22 inch barrelled ruger with express sights & shoots 275 grn pills for giving 200kg plus animals a hard time at close range. The other is a 26 inch barrelled winchester action shooting 225 grn pills out to several hundred meters with a decent scope.

You might like to seek advice from Andy Venables at WMS
Possibly not too far from you and you could check out options on his 1000 yard facility

If you reload and already have the Blaser be different and get either the Blaser mag or the Lapua, there was a Blaser mag barrel on guntrader but it's for a Mauser.
You can then go have some fun at WMS and do a write up for us all to read.

That's a hell of a variation for vermin! I don't know if you re-load but you might want to check out LapMag ammunition prices before taking the plunge @ £20 a bang

yes i reload & heads aren't any dearer than any others where i get them i refuse to pay corrupt UK prices for heads, think itll be a lap mag improved or an edge if i build one & standard lap mag if i buy the fox wont know the difference.

1000yd foxing??? i thought April fools day was last saturday!! Next thing you know you will be telling us you are doing it at night

Ian.

I run a couple of 338lm. Barrett MRAD with a heavy fluted barrel 1:10 twist and a TRG 42 with a 1:12.
The MRAD will throw the heavier 300s but both shoot the Hornady 285 ELDs well sub moa.
I had the MRAD at Barry Tunnel yesterday with a fixed power Sig scope (×4) and even new shooters were shooting sub moa at 100yds with ease.
