As a vet and practice director I am appalled by the experience you have had. Whether you report her to the RCVS is your choice, but please make sure you report it to your own vets, who the night service were covering for. Our practice covers its own on call. It is hard work, makes recruiting staff more difficult and is becoming increasingly rare, but your exeperince of "care" that our clients might also have if we delegated to someone else, means that it is not something I would consider doing.
Thank you, if I wasn't in the process of moving to Germany to start my new job running a hunting estate there I would be taking matters further. The bottom line is that this individual clearly knew what she was able to get away with saying,as, with hindsight, it became apparent to me yesterday that I have no way whatsoever of being able to prove what she said, and more importantly , the manner in which she said it. If I launch into a complaint process, I fear it would be fruitless and I could easily wind up being done for slander as i bet that horrible 'vet' has plenty of other dirty tricks up her sleeves as I can't prove anything as I was there on my own, I wish I had recorded the conversation but that's not allowed anyway I think !
As I stated in a previous post, I may be mentioning it to my usual vet in an unofficial manner , he can then perhaps make his own mind up as to how good that place is as a night service.
Sadly it just goes to show how careful one must tread when you are in a vulnerable position like I was the other evening with my very poorly dog.
the great news is that my Dog is doing really well now following lots of rest and some very high quality carefully given meals yesterday.
