Nast nasty 'vet '

As a vet and practice director I am appalled by the experience you have had. Whether you report her to the RCVS is your choice, but please make sure you report it to your own vets, who the night service were covering for. Our practice covers its own on call. It is hard work, makes recruiting staff more difficult and is becoming increasingly rare, but your exeperince of "care" that our clients might also have if we delegated to someone else, means that it is not something I would consider doing.

Thank you, if I wasn't in the process of moving to Germany to start my new job running a hunting estate there I would be taking matters further. The bottom line is that this individual clearly knew what she was able to get away with saying,as, with hindsight, it became apparent to me yesterday that I have no way whatsoever of being able to prove what she said, and more importantly , the manner in which she said it. If I launch into a complaint process, I fear it would be fruitless and I could easily wind up being done for slander as i bet that horrible 'vet' has plenty of other dirty tricks up her sleeves as I can't prove anything as I was there on my own, I wish I had recorded the conversation but that's not allowed anyway I think !
As I stated in a previous post, I may be mentioning it to my usual vet in an unofficial manner , he can then perhaps make his own mind up as to how good that place is as a night service.
Sadly it just goes to show how careful one must tread when you are in a vulnerable position like I was the other evening with my very poorly dog.
the great news is that my Dog is doing really well now following lots of rest and some very high quality carefully given meals yesterday. IMG_3018.webp

if I was you I'd report it , you did nothing wrong , and remember not only do you have no proof of what she said she has no proof of what was said either?

you may find that there have been previous reports about her and yours may tip the balance and get her investigated ?

Thank you, as I've already said though I'm not in a position to be able to invest any time on this vet . I gave it due consideration and decided that the best course of action was to make people aware of this type of thing. I hope that she does the same to someone else who is in a position to be able to tackle it head on. I know this sounds spineless but unfortunately I've got so much to be dealing with over the next couple of weeks , ahead of me moving into the new house on the estate in Germany, that I'm not going to compromise my future in my new job by adding more to my heap of work. I will mention it to my vet but it will be down to him to look into it if he wishes to do so. At the end of the day, that vet had a disliking for my work with my dog, I've decided that the best thing I can do is to continue with my current project of moving to Germany to be able to start my new position running a hunting estate and not letting the poor behaviour of that 'vet' get in the way of it. If I get tied up in a legal slanging match with some anti then that could be a very expensive experience for me in terms of both time and money, neither of which do I have very much of at all at present.
Kindest regards, Olaf

fair enough ,

best of luck with your new job

For what it's worth given your time is evidently precious at the moment: I reported a vet 5 years ago to the RCVS after he consistently failed to identify a 'potentially' fatal illness in our dog at the time. He was recommending major procedures to try and determine the cause as opposed to a simple blood test. We refused his repeated attempts at a bone marrow biopsy and went to our original vet (200 mile round trip) who had it diagnosed in 48hrs and treatment in train shortly after.
The worst bit was I felt I had let my dog down by listening to the idiot. Luckily the dog was strong enough and made a full recovery at which point I wrote a detailed chronology of the events. RCVS replied acknowledging it before then saying the Vet disputed the allegation. It was also followed by what can only be called a series of comical counter allegations along the lines that we didn't care for our dog etc etc. The significant mileage to drive him to have his treatment as well as the overall cost would suggest otherwise. I don't begrudge one bit of it!
RVC stated that because he was disputing the issue it would be our word against his....what a fantastic process!

In sum - I never went back and I was sure to warn anyone I knew to steer clear.

Despite my experience of their 'resolution' I don't like letting things go so perhaps once you are settled it would be worth getting in touch before she has another chance to prolong the suffering of another animal?

Hi, I just thought I'd update this thread. Thankfully my little dog is back on the track again. I just took her out this morning and she handled a good run and lots of swimming. Thankfully she's now well and happy again. With hindsight as my guide I think that she had some sort of virus or bacterial attack to her stomach.
Anyway, I explained the whole event to my good vet and he was pretty disgusted by the 'vet' that caused all the added unpleasantness to the situation last week, he said that he would look into it.
Kindest regards, Olaf
