The Black Dot of Doom 2017 - back to haunt us.

Kind of defeats the point if they are.

My understanding is that you can shoot with the aids that you would take stalking & I would say that the majority of stalkers would take a bipod with them. No reason why you can't submit more than one target with different aids & positions.

I kind of envisaged it as being from normal field stalking type positions and a lot of people use a bipod when stalking - I always have one on my rifle though most shots are taken off sticks. I'd imagine there are a lot of people who rarely take a shot from anything other than a bipod equally there are people who usually shoot from their highseat and this is also perfectly reasonable in my view. The idea of a fun shoot is to include as many people as possible rather than to exclude people because their stalking is slightly different to yours.

I'm very impressed by the honesty of endeavour on display here. It would be so easy to post a 3-shot group from the bench.

That said 3-shots taken prone and using a fanny pack as improvised front rest will produce better or equal to those off a bipod in my experience.

Are you guys shooting off bipods?

No bipod for me. i dont actually know if any of the ground i stalk could present a safe shot that low to the ground so sitting is the lowest i get.

Thanks caorach. im really annoyed with myself as i pulled the third shot a bit. but i suppose that's the added pressure when you've surprised yourself with the previous two shots.
Its also interesting to see that others have two close then one further out. is this the third shot also

Again these are "old" targets as I can't get out to shoot for a little while just at the minute but...

I don't know about others but way back we actually ran the black dot twice, first time around my prone shooting wasn't great, as you can see from the target I posted earlier in this thread. Second time around it was a little better, this was purely a matter of luck as I hold by the "3 inch group in the field" position, but it was actually my first shot that was off. I remember at the time that I misjudged the distance that I had to aim off into the white paper and, of course, with the cross hairs obscuring the black dot this was made more difficult so I ended up with the first one going low:

My shooting off sticks wasn't so great and that is probably at least 4 inches:

What I also did, for a laugh, was shoot 3 different loads at the target. So these are 3 different bullets and loads. I wish I could remember what the bullets/loads were now but I'd guess I picked something as far apart as possible in terms of performance, bullet weight etc. I shot these after the prone and sticks targets so as not to count as "practise" as this was just something done out of interest. Again my view is that this sort of fits with a standard group of around 3 inches

First one was a string of 5 shots off bipod from the other day (Quite pleased with that)

All at 100 meters with no wind - however I could have sworn the black dot moved just as I pulled the trigger !

these are the sticks I used - Garden hose from Prada; legs modeled off an ex girlfriend.

I am taking commissions :).

Sorry, not trying to detract from the post. I was genuinely interested in how some of those small groups were achieved.

I'm off stalking tmrw evening so will take my BDOD sheets along with me as it will still be light when I leave.

Lots of PPU will with flyers... even mine

I used the target for load development and also shot one of every load at a separate target. Suffice to say it shot better than me.
